Melo's Game

30 Aug 2006 12:17 am

What with moving and all, I haven't really had the chance to follow the World Championships as much as I'd like. My sense, however, has been that Carmelo Anthony has morphed from being one of Team USA's least-effective contributors, statistically speaking, in the NBA to being Team USA's best player in the Worlds. Dave Berri crunched the numbers and that's the conclusion he reached, too.

No No No Matt! don't fall for it. Melo is Shawn Kemp with less kids. He's shooting better and turning it over less but he's still a black hole with the basketball. D-wade VOLUNTEERS to come off the bench for the good of the team, LeBron is laying low, making plays, playing team ball, but clueless Melo is keepin' it real, chuckin' away. Yes his performance is better but the role is the same. selfish clueless chucker. hes gonna be a coach killer on the order of starbury!!

I've been TIVO-ing the games, and it's true.

Where in the NBA game, LeBron and Wade are clearly better than Melo. In the FIBA game, Melo and Wade are clearly better than LeBron.

Make sure to TIVO the two games early on Friday. Both games ought to be pretty good matchups.

Kevin Grier,

Are you a racist, or just an idiot?

I like Wade and Lebron, I don't like Melo or Starbury. If that makes me either a racist or an idiot or both, so be it. I can't imagine what you mean though? Is it because I used the word "black"? Dude, black holes are cosmological anti-matter! what dead stars get sucked into in space. things go in but don't come out, you know, like the ball to melo in the post.

"I can't imagine what you mean though? Is it because I used the word "black"

It was the impressive combination of the Shawn Kemp reference, "chucker", and "black hole" all packed into one paragraph that made me wonder.

I'm perfectly willing to peg you as an idiot rather than a racist, however. Melo's role with the team is to shoot the ball. You can most certainly be a non-racist and fail to comprehend that simple fact.

Melo's role on that team is to shoot the ball BECAUSE HE WILL ACCEPT NO OTHER ROLE, not because he is the best shooter. that is my point. Given that he's gonna shoot, clearly its better that he makes rather than misses, but either way, put him on the floor and he does one thing and one thing only.

Apparently one can be a pedantic ass and fail to comprehend that simple point. I'm done, son, name call to your hearts content.

"name call to your hearts content."

Ignorant dumbass.

Dude is shooting 55% from 2pt land and 45% from 3 pt land. He's on the team and getting minutes to shoot the ball, the same way Chris Paul is on the team and getting minutes to pass the ball.

A one dimensional player can be very useful on a team. It's not that complicated.

Berri doesn't attempt to crunch the numbers on 'melo's defense. If he had, he might not be so quick to name him the most productive player.
