Early Admission

Good for Harvard, early admission is a bad system for exactly the reasons they outline. Hopefully other schools will follow suit.

today is the proudest day for me as a Harvardian since the day they picked Summers as President. it gives me hope for the future of that place, that they can reclaim the mantle of educational leadership that the faculty is so generally focused on pissing away.

If it were up to chauvinistic status-grubbers like Larry Summers, the entire Harvard student body would be made up of early admits from Andover, Exeter, and St. Paul's.

Summers nothing; the NYT reports that this is a personal project of my main man Derek Bok.

i don't quite understand this. if harvard can just have discipline enough to only offer early admission to students that absolutely, definitively, no question about it would have got in anyways, then how can it harm underpriveleged students?

isn't that what they do?

why should it be any easier to get admitted early? coz they'll take you just because you really, really, really want to go there? i would hope that harvard has higher standards than that.
