New Strategy?

10 Sep 2006 10:54 am

Republicans are planning to spend the vast majority of their sizable financial war chest over the final 60 days of the campaign attacking Democratic House and Senate candidates over personal issues and local controversies, GOP officials said.

That's your Washington Post reporting. I also feel like this directly contradicts reporting that was in major papers just last week. Persona issues and local controversies are, of course, always good campaign fodder. Spending the "vast majority" of one's war chest on that, however, does seem like a bit of a desperation move.

These are going to be the ugliest 2 months of politics in my lifetime.

The Republicans have spent the past 6 years tending to the wealthiest 0.1%, and not much else. If I were a soon-to-be-smeared Dem, my line would be; "This closeted gay, Mexican-loving, two-timing, pot-smoking candidate is going to work for the interests of the majority of Americans" The incompetence, arrogance, and corruption are just too plain to see this year. Personal attacks just won't have the same bite they once had.
