Rep. Don Sherwood (R-PA): Yes, I cheated on my wife, but I didn't beat my mistress.
Setting the "moral values" bar just a little bit lower.

And it's to our everlasting honor that we're not as bad as Hitler, Stalin, or Mao. And it's not absolutely sure that we've killed as many as Saddam. So, we get an edge there. For awhile, anyway.
This guy's probably the only Republican who's thrilled about Foley-gate.
No doubt Sherwood will be checking himself into rehab any day now. Paid for by his fabulous health care, which 45 million of his fellow Americans do not have, thanks to the tax cutting horseshit promoted by Sherwood and his like-minded Congressional cronies. Yeah, he's a real family values guy, willing to see millions of women and children go without health care. What a lying, scumbag hypocrite, for godsake...
If you look at his bio on his website (http://www.house.gov/sherwood/bio.shtml), all he brags about is spending money. Not a word about taxes.
I think cheating on your wife is bad, but basically a private matter. And seeing how many prominent Republicans have done so, it's hard to even say that it's hypocritical anymore. Choking your mistress is much, much worse, and a public matter. Being a Republican is probably even worse than that.
Carney's really going for the throat.
This guy's probably the only Republican who's thrilled about Foley-gate. Actually, no. Carney was having trouble using it in the campaign: Sherwood wasn't acknowledging the issue, making it tricky to put together an ad that says 'oh, by the way, my opponent was accused by his mistress of choking her.' The Republican who's doing the Snoopy dance right now is G. Felix Macacawitz, junior senator of Virginia.
The Republican who's doing the Snoopy dance right now is G. Felix Macacawitz, junior senator of Virginia. Hey, did anyone else notice that a Democratic staffer in Virginia was just forced to resign after using this same anti-semitic term, Sen. Macacawitz? It doesn't surprise me that the Democrats would use anti-semitism in this manner.
You're kidding, right? You don't really think that term is meant as anti-semitism rather than as a way to mock Sen. Cluelessgrin?
Naturally it was stupid of that Dem staffer to use that term, but it originated with Republicans, Al. Obviously, as ostap says, it was coined as a term of mockery, not anti-Semitism. http://www.tnr.com/blog/theplank?pid=41015
Hey, did anyone else notice that a Democratic staffer in Virginia was just forced to resign after using this same anti-semitic term, Sen. Macacawitz If you look at the Corner, you'll see J. Podhorowitz claiming to have invented the term. More evidence that everything bad in America (assuming this is bad) starts on the Right.
Now why would anyone quit a campaign for merely "mocking" the opponent?
Now why would anyone quit a campaign for merely "mocking" the opponent? Why do you continue to use the handle of a commenter who apparently died well over a year ago? Some questions have no answers.
The really tell-tale fact is that no one would be surprised if he's lying.
in the Don Sherwood tradition of unequivocal denials: "Yeah I accepted a bribe from a contractor--but I didn't burn the house down for the insurance!" "Yeah I sold my children into slavery--but I packed them a lunch first!" "Yeah I will do anything to cover up the misdeeds of the GOP--but I haven't actually sold my soul to Satan!" "Yeah I have sexual fantasies about small children--but I never went to an Amish school and killed anyone!" "Yeah I drink too much--but I rarely take meth!" "Yeah I considered having my opponent whacked--but I didn't actually put the order out!" "Yeah I think women are devilish temptresses inferior to men--but I'm against witch trials!"
"I didn't beat my mistress!" "I don't care!"
Because Webb doesn't want to deal with concern trolls making baseless accusations of anti-semitism, Al, like a certain someone did at 12:38. This has been another edition of short answers to stupid questions.
What a set-up: "So, Mr. Sherwood, when did you stop beating your mistress?"
Does the ad by Carney make anybody else feel just a little bit unclean? I'm pulling for the Dems in November and I think we'll retake the house, but I already feel like we're stooping to the Repugs level. In Florida the Repugs are putting up signs informing people that a vote for Foley is actually a vote for the replacement candidate and the Dems are fighting it. They might have a legal point but I want people to be able to vote for the candidate of their choice and to be informed of their options. If we can't win in that district with informed voters, then maybe we don't deserve the seat.
If we can't win in that district with informed voters, then maybe we don't deserve the seat. You've read the FSU study that showed how Florida just simply thew away legitimate ballots in 2000? Yes? No? Not wanting to get into a disagreeable battle over the issue has given us 6 years of hell. With 2 more to go. I'm sorry that the gouging and elbowing and spitting of politics makes you feel "unclean". I wish public displays of virtue made you feel that way.
Hasn't the bar been at the Fund level for quite awhile now? "Yes, I had an affair with my ex-girlfriend's mentally-unstable daughter, but she only says I beat her because the bitch is crazy"?

He also never waivered in his commitment to cut taxes. Surely that counts for something!
