Dick Lugar re-elected without major party opponent in Indiana. Bad news for the Dems! In all seriousness, current count has 13 percent for Lugar's token Libertarian Party opponent, which seems like a high number to me. Also -- Vermont adopts socialism.

Ahh, Bernie's been winning statewide elections for a long time. Heck, you have to wonder why it took him so long to figure out that the Senate seat involves the same electorate but only one-third of the campaigning.
Token? Matt, we're serious about our Libertarians here. Thankfully we're also serious about taking out three Republicans.
As a Hoosier, I voted against Lugar any way I could. It hurt me, because I used to like Lugar and what he was doing for non-proliferation. I used to think he was one of the good ones. But he's an Republican, and the whole party is to blame for the disaster that has befallen us in the last several years, so he had to be voted against -- if only for symbolic purposes.
Well said, moonbiter. That's exactly how I reasoned it out too.
Lugar has done a lot of good work and could be one of the good guys in the senate. But as long as he caucuses with the Republicans, a vote for him is a vote for Frist. And that I cannot do.
I filled in my circle for the Libertarian (whose name I've forgotten) simply on the strength of Lugar's vote to confirm Alito. Alito is exactly the sort of Republican that Lugar can't stand, so his vote made it clear that he's not going to stand up to extremists in his own party. Might as well try to send an extremist from another party.
Lugar would have beaten anyone the dems put up. By not running a canidate against him they helped out a number of house races in Indiana by keeping some Republicans home who would have come out to vote for Dick if he was in a real race.
Think about it.
hey, cut us in vt some slack. bernie's an "independent." right. but he still won't touch gun control, not with a ten foot pistol like the joker in batman.
and thlayli, i'm sure bernie was well aware of it, but there's no way a socialist from brooklyn was going to unseat a moderate republican/independent who's a fourth (third) generation vermonter, who also happens to be a much, much more likable guy.

In 2004, I believe Alan Keyes recieved a little under 20% of the vote in Illinois. Allan Keyes is worse than anything the libertarians could throw out there.
