Okay, it's wanky and off-message, but having been raised with, if not San Francisco values, then at least West Village values, I have to say this sketch is pretty funny:
I think our values are pretty neat....

All that does is just give cover to right wing talking points about Democratic stereotypes. When is SNL going to make fun of Republicans? or are they all sellouts to the Republican-lite DLC agenda.
There goes YOUTUBE. 3 months ago, NBC would do anything to get their stuff viewed on this site, now they are pulling their content off it. Welcome to GOOtube (gonetube is probably a better name for it.)
This would be an opportune moment for Matt to revisit his intellectual property proposals.
When is SNL going to make fun of Republicans? Actually, there was one just a couple of weeks ago that was a home run, and that I posted myself you YouTube so I could blog it, only to discover how fast NBC's lawyers move nowadays. Transcript is here. It worked much better in reality, as it's a long-building shaggy dog story.

Oh puhleez, I am so sick of hearing that whine that I could scream. It's YOU that are confirming Freeper talking points that liberals are humorless whiners who can only laugh at schaudenfraude and who see some conspiracy in the minds of comedy writers who simply try as hard as possible to put their ear to the pop cultural ground. I am not going to list all the multitudes of W parodies for you on SNL the last few years, I'll just give one example: Poppy taking W hunting and trying to decide whether to shoot him and put him out of the country's misery. If you have power and/or are in the news, you are going to be subject to satire. Revel in it, even possibly work to offer a favorable caricature that's endearing to the public. If the words "Nancy Pelosi" are ignored by Leno and Letterman in the future, that's when you should worry. The last couple of decades, most politicians found it an honor to be parodied on SNL. Many appeared on the show after it did so. (My personal favorites: Steve Forbes appearing as a hippie roofer, Gore in a hot tub, Guiliani as an Italian mama and the absolute best-a crying Bob Doley-Dole being kicked out of the MTV reality show house dragging his Barcalounger behind him.) You want to help the left, do them a favor and stop posting comments like this showing your absolute lack of an ability to self-deprecate on busy blogs.
I'm think DRR is either a Republican or very conservative Democrat, and that he was making a joke. I could be wrong, though.
that he was making a joke If so, it was a joke based in reality, which is why I said I was sick of hearing that whine. Sometimes when Yglesias uses humor to good effect, I try to think of any other bloggers left of center that use self-deprecating humor. Can't usually think of any. It's pitiful, really, the level of humor, mostly really sophmoric schadenfraude about Bush combined with a high level of taking oneself sooooo seriously, It really is one thing that still makes me shy away from anyone who proudly labels themselves "liberal." At this point in time, it still seems to go hand-in-hand with "humorless" for me. P.S. Why I was just reading a long righteous sermon the other day on another website how Borat is a sign of the downfall of our civilization into fascism....ya know...how it's directly related to our willingness to torture etc....
We must read very different blogs; I've never read one to suggest that most comedians (Stewart, SNL, etc.) weren't on our side. And most of the Dem ones I've seen are pretty good humored.
Yeah, but what about Mallard Fillmore?
Since this video seems to have been removed, I am going to take this opportunity to berate Andrew Sullivan. Did anyone catch the latest installment of the Drama of the Gay at sully.com? You see: in Andrew Sullivan's world gay people have all the time in the world to sit around and Be Very Upset about the latest insane remark from Dobson or Falwell or any of the other douchebags, and on occasion have very touching moments with the other side. They don't especially have to work, and if they do work they don't have to conceal their sexual orientation for fear of being fired (does Sully support ENDA? I forget). And they all apparently have British passports so that if they're HIV positive and lose their jobs for being gay or maybe just because they cost too much (I know he supports offshoring) they can just jet back to London to get their AIDS drugs at the expense of the British taxpayer (and just so we're clear: Attlee was a commie and a motherfucker).
Yes I was making a joke, playing off Matt's equally in jest "off message" remark. No I am not a republican or a "very conservative Democrat". Judged from my work at Progressive Punch, wherein I evaluate votes and determine how I would vote on them (yes I'm a nerd) I appear to be a Debbie Wasserman-Schultz/Ron Wyden Democrat. Liberal by congressional standards, but admittedly, almost right wing by liberal blogosphere standards. Yes my joke was based on reality (read firdoglake sometime) that's why I phrased it like that. End.
