Pretty Girls Make Graves

29 Jan 2007 11:30 am

Another band I like breaking up: "We are sorry to announce that our upcoming tour in May will be our last. Nick quit the band and the rest of us feel like it wouldn’t be right to continue on without him. The 5 of us feel very lucky to have met and worked with some truly amazing people over the years. Thank you all so much." To bad. But, as I said of Rainer Maria, in some ways I think it's better for a band to call it quits while I'm still sad to see them go. Here's "Speakers Push the Air":

Also note their crucial song "Parade" about organizing a strike.

The world will survive just fine with one fewer Cure tribute band...

At this rate, The Divorce and Gossip will split up by the end of the year.

I think the bands founded while some of their members are in high school or even very early twenties are essentially unsustainable, for the same reasons that so many SO relationships don't last through the high school or college transition. Once you've figured out you're not going to make millions, touring medium size clubs while in your mid-30s looks much less appealing.

They sort of lost the plot after Good Health, I thought. Also, I think they may have never once played Madison despite seeming to be in Milwaukee every few months, which is sort of annoying.

Wow, Petey's musical tastes are as abd as his politics. PGMG is awesome, Parade especailly.

If I ever start a blog, Iit will have a feature called "Does Yglesias like it?" Next up: Tilly and the Wall (I'm guessing yes) and The Long Blondes (I'm guessing no.)

"Wow, Petey's musical tastes are as abd as his politics. PGMG is awesome"

I always found PGMG to be perfectly inoffensive.

'Twas a joke that posited that PGMG as a band that did nothing but play Cure covers, hence the kneeslapping humor. It was not an actual assessment of PGMG's perfectly inoffensive music.

Sorry to step on your joke, Petey, but wasn't "Pretty Girls Make Graves" a Smiths song?

In any case, I too lament the loss of this band... especially because I've missed every local opportunity to see them live for one reason or another.

pretty girls make graves sucked...

I liked em.
