Man. Rick Perlstein sure does love blogs and this isn't the first time he's dedicated a column to the subject. So where's the Perlstein blog (or, perhaps, perlslog), damnit? RickPerlstein.org looks like it was created in 1998. They're not hard to set up.

At any rate, I'm not sure how generalizable the FireDogLake/Plame trial experience really is, but the initial point about Jay Carney blundering through recent political history and then lashing out at people who noted his errors really is revelatory.

The ongoing disaster that is Time's Swampland blog really is a sight to behold. The incongruity of the contributors, Klein's and Carney's huge struggles to adapt to the blogosphere, it's lack of cohesive purpose... just terrible all around. After the Person of the Year debacle, I'd say the Rick Stengel era at Time has 2 big strikes.

If you didn't know that Perlstein had written that piece, The New Republic has to be one of the last places you would have expected to see it.

To think that only a few months ago, TNR online was decrying blogofascism, so this Perlstein piece is a wild swing from that.

RP is too good for TNR of course. Hope he moves on.

I do wonder what Klein and Carney think after the blogosphere has beat them with the "truth" stick for a few weeks.

i like how RP's headshot on his website, with its super soft lighting, makes him look like a 12 year old band dork.
