The Left

04 Mar 2007 11:59 am

Like Duncan, I recently took a gander at the works of The Left and the experience was . . . bracing. It used dirty words! It hated the troops! And people of faith! Especially people of faith who were also troops. Hated them with nasty, dirty, nasty dirty words. At times, it said that ice cream was more delicious than capitalism.

Drum has a related post that pretty accurately diagnoses the Klein-blogosphere contretemps as a generational battle.

But believing that anything is better than capitalism makes you a leftwing extremist. This includes Freedom, Peace, Justice, Pizza, Ice Cream or Taco Bell Quesadillas.

Ice cream may be more delicious than capitalism, but babies of people of faith are the most delicious thing of all.

mmmmmm, blessed babies

No matter how tasty Christian babies are I think the left is better served by working on the best tactics to achieve political victories. Once we gain complete control of the country we can go about roasting all the Christian babies we want.

From the Pew survey, "Majorities of black Protestants, white Catholics and seculars, along with a plurality of white mainline Protestants, say that Democratic congressional leaders, rather than President Bush, should take the lead in solving the nation's problems."

'For example, six-in-ten white evangelical Protestants say that the Bible should be the guiding principle in making laws when it conflicts with the will of the people, a view rejected by an equally large majority of Americans, including most Catholics (72%) and white mainline Protestants (78%) and seculars (91%).'

Pragmatic, your story is bogus. Kind of makes me think you might be a concern troll. Read the Pew report in full. An overwhelming majority of American think the will of the people is more important than the bible. Moreover, broken down into political categories, only conservative republicans got a majority going for the bible. Mod Republicans, Independents and both Mod and Lib Democrats all strongly back the will of the people. And the younger democraphic is stronger here as well. Both in the short term and the long term democrats are better off leaving the fundies to the republicans and addressing the actual majority of america.

I like the term "concern troll." It makes me think that someday, as I'm crossing a bridge over a stream, some giant, bug-eyed, bipedal beast will jump out from below me, grip me with his monstrous, hairy fingers, and politely tell me to avoid trans-fats, get some exercise and drink less coffee.

It's not a generational conflict, IMHO (born in 1960); it's the Elites (and their courtiers, like Klein) vs everybody else. Klein is a member of the permanent courtier class; favors the elites; unless they're jumped-up peons, like the Clintons were.

At times, it said that ice cream was more delicious than capitalism.

Matt's getting his Tycho Brahe on.
