Comment Approval

29 Apr 2007 09:55 am

What, you may be wondering, is the deal with the requirement that comments be held for approval before they're published? The deal, in short, is that it's a mistake and it'll be fixed soon. This is one of the reasons why we've been playing around with the site a bit this weekend before the "official" launch tomorrow.

Incidentally, as I'm sure you can tell from the nav bar, The Atlantic is offering other fine blog products besides this one. In particular, James Fallows and Ross Douthat are doing Atlantic blogs and, of course, Andrew Sullivan's been blogging away here for a while. Clearly I would say this, but I think it's a pretty stellar cast of blog colleagues I've got here.

As long as you are fixing things, how about fixing the link to Lindsay Beyerstein?

My own view is that Linus is a big jerk type on his comment on the "Why Don't You Guys Ever Report the Good News?" didn't deserve to be approved.

if you could please do something about the way that the name of the author of a comment appears at the beginning of the comment, followed by a colon, as well as at the end of the comment? It makes it look like everyone is talking to themselves . . .

"if you could please do something about the way that the name of the author of a comment appears at the beginning of the comment, followed by a colon, as well as at the end of the comment?"

Yup.

And bring back the Recent Comments feature.

It's singlehandedly responsible for keeping the comments section lively.

And this is different-than-usual because.... ?

OK: one thing IS different:

I added an italicized quote for the "talking to themselves" from rea's comment to my 9:00 post, and neither it, nor the italics showed up.

Also: my "personal info" got forgotten, despite checking the box.

Just to let you know.

Off topic, but I checked your feed after the weekend and it's Full Text RSS. Hooray!
