Simply astounding. Is that even really Alanis? Via Ezra Klein.

Surely it's a parody? Dude, did you watch when she head butts that guy? OF COURSE IT'S A PARODY.
Wow, she's delicious.
(People actually took the video seriously? A dirge-y version of the most vapid top-ten hit since "Sugar, Sugar"?)
To the extent that I can take that serously, it seems like a swipe at Pussycat Dolls-style "empowerment." But then, I can't speak to the appropriateness of that getting directed at the Blackeyed Peas.
I think this would have had a greater impact on me if I'd never heard Nina Gordon's cover of Straight Outta Compton. I just have this nagging feeling that Alanis was a little late for the bus. Same sort of ultra-mello vibe.
That was the ear poison which was used to murder Hamlet's father.
Alanis is doing here for the concept of parody what she earlier did for the concept of irony.
It worked for me, but then I'm a feminist.
Oh my god.
Is this "Let's cravenly suck up to the feminist extremists and maybe they will give us some angry sex" week?
If I want to hear Alanis's caterwauling , I'll go step on my cat's tail. And if I wanted to hear a lazy , narcissistic bitch whine, I would go and read Ann Althouse's blog.
It worked for me, but then I'm a feminist.
Alanis does not and never did have anything to do with feminism, except in the degraded, American, marketing sense of that word.
Yawn. A long drawn out joke that's only funny in the first 10 seconds.
Don't queer the deal, Don.
She must have heard Jonathan Coulton's slow ballad version of "Baby Got Back", which is pretty awesom.
Funny...if I wanted to hear a lazy narcissistic bitch whine, I'd read a Don Williams comment.

That's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. But surely its a parody, right? She can't be serious, can she? I have to believe that to maintain any mental stability at all.
