Holy crap. I just checked the TV listings and it looks like they're making my poor, injury-depleted Wizards play the Bulls tomorrow on ABC. How embarrassing! I'm guessing Spurs-Mavs will be a better matchup. Incidentally, I've been considering following up my outlandish John Edwards pick for the Democratic nomination with a daring prediction that the Chicago Bulls will take the Eastern Conference crown. Think about it. It could happen.

hasnt matt been through enough gilberto?
Yeah, Gil, one more injury to his beloved Wiz and Matthew might just snap like the bone below my right index finger. Have some sensitivity, bro!
Ouch, I can't even play XBOX with this hand...
Not really as daring a prediction as the Edwards one, actually. Chicago plays the best defense in the East, has one of the best coaches in the entire league, a deep bench, and the best PG in the East Playoffs not named Chauncey (although T.J. is a pretty close third).
Chicago is a decent pick because they will likely end up the #2 seed, only needing to beat New Jersey and Toronto in the first two rounds. Cleveland, Miami, and Detroit will all have to fight it out to be the Bulls' opponent in the conference finals. The Bulls also have the best record in the east since the All-Star break, I think. They are built to win those 81-79 slugfests that the eastern conference playoffs always degenerate toward.
The Bulls have a lot better chance to win the East than John Edwards has of winning the Democratic nomination. Like the rest of the top teams in the East, the Bulls are pretty good but also flawed enough that they can't be dominating. As a result, the Bulls have a decent chance to sneak through if they get hot.
John Edwards is in a different situation. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are more like Phoenix and Dallas than teams in the East. Because they're better known, more popular, and better financed, both are significantly stronger candidates than Edwards. Thus, Edwards is more like the Lakers or Clips than the Bulls. He might be able to pull off the miracle of beating either Hillary or Obama. But his chances of picking off both are negligible.
"I'm guessing Spurs-Mavs will be a better matchup."
Doubt it. Having clinched everything. Johnson is doing things like resting players and working Willis a little bit. And there may be a little sandbagging, a little working off complacency and over-confidence. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mav's lose the rest of the season.
the bulls could do it. but it's one thing to beat good teams during the regular season. it's quite another to beat them four out of seven in the playoffs.
can the young guys handle making the adjustments that goes on in that series? it's still the pistons to win or lose in the east.
one thing to remember. unlike last year, the pistons have pretty much coasted the last month or so. flip saunders has been using his bench a lot more and they look to be healthy by the time the playoffs start.
the bulls are as good as they're going to get, right now. i don't think it's going to be enough.
Don't count out the Raptors so blithely, Dimmy. They've played very well since the New Year, are 14-4 since March 7, and are all of a game and a half behind the Bulls. They've probably played .600 or better with a healthy Chris Bosh. I'm thinking of picking them to win the conference.
The Bulls gave Miami their toughest matchup in last years playoff run (including Dallas). I'm hoping that Chicago will keep the #2 seed and Miami can play the Cavs in the first round while Wade gets his groove back.
Chicago really is a contender in the East. Look how well they do in the ProTrade rankings:

Comparing any Democrat to the Bulls is futile because in 2008 the Democrats are the Western Conference. Whoever comes out of that conference will win the championship. I'd say the Pistons are Guiliani, the Bulls are McCain, and my beloved yet inconsistent Cavs are, unfortunately, Mitt Romney (of course, all the Republican candidates are inconsistent), with the Heat being Fred Thompson or some other late surging potential candidate. Of course, I think Mitt Romney is getting the Republican nomination, so I'm behind the Cavs 100% (hopefully the Bulls will drop one of their next two games, unlikely, and the Cavs will win their last two) But it doesn't matter, because any of these teams will be romped by the Mavs, the Suns, or the Spurs.
Of course, I remember thinking last year that the Mavericks were going to walk all over the Heat in the finals. Which they did for two games. Hopefully that won't be the case in the Presidential election.
I know I will be roundly mocked for saying this, but the Mavs will go down in the first round. Nelson has their number (though the Warriors will then promptly lose to whoever they play in the second round).
I don't think David "Mr." Stern would allow the Bulls to win the Conference. They don't seem nearly as marketable as the Defending World Champion Shaqs or the Cleveland Annointed Ones.
As of today (Sundsy), Cleveland would face Miami in the first round, but Cleveland is tied with Chicgao for the #2 seed. Hmm, I like Cleveland's chances to avoid a Prime Time showdown in the first round, and ergo will receive the #2 seed. Take Miami to beat Bull in round 1. We shall see.
a daring prediction that the Chicago Bulls will take the Eastern Conference crown.
I was thinking the same thing this morning, if they get the 2-seed. Then they play the Nets/Wiz in the first round and the Raptors in the 2nd round. The other second matchup would be Pistons/Heat(or Cavs).
Three words for Dallas: Bring. It. On.
Avery Johnson is my little bitch.
Oh and we beat Phoenix once, so don't count us out yet! We all know Baron's a better PG than Nash...
Hey, you know what they say! NBA Basketball: Anything Can Happen, Except for the Wizards
As a Bulls fan, I'd like to apologize for us scoring 100 in a blowout. Steve Francis says it's not nice.
Please drop the last two games so we can see you again in the postseason? I want a big juicy cupcake of a postseason run to the eastern conference finals.
