Moderates Running Scared

08 Apr 2007 05:45 pm

I don't for a minute believe that Republican members representing blue states are genuinely enthusiastic about Nancy Pelosi's ascension to the Speaker's chair. I am, however, glad to see that they at least feel a need to feign enthusiasm. That means such Republicans are right where a liberal wants to see them -- frightened that 2006 wasn't as bad as it can get for them. The only real way out of Iraq before 2009 is for such fears to both deepend and spread, prompting congressional Republicans to make a serious effort to end it. I don't think the odds are good, but the signs of fear are real.

For featured "moderate Republican" Mike Ferguson, feigning one view while holding another is Standard Operating Procedure. Why anyone would consider Ferguson a moderate or a centrist, given Ferguson's history of voting better than 90% of the time for Tom DeLay's various outrages, would be a mystery, if we didn't know already that corporate reporters will rush to print anything a Republican says.

Ferguson is a "stealth" moderate/centrist. He's really a reactionary Catholic activist from a wealthy family. His parents first bought the 7th district NJ seat for him (with a major violation of FEC rules), and Big Pharma has been returning him ever since.

Iraqi Details 'Shocking' U.S. Missteps

By CHARLES J. HANLEY, AP Special Correspondent 22 minutes ago

NEW YORK - In a rueful reflection on what might have been, an Iraqi government insider details in 500 pages the U.S. occupation's "shocking" mismanagement of his country — a performance so bad, he writes, that by 2007 Iraqis had "turned their backs on their would-be liberators."

I think the odds actually are good, but the signs of fear are real. I'm not necessarily referring to repugs.

For moderate Republicans to be scared enough to push for an end to the Iraq war really is the best possible outcome. It means that not only will the war's end come sooner, but the Republican party will be split in half. Double victory!!

"He's really a reactionary Catholic activist."

Aww, snap! Waitaminute ... that makes no sense.

Matt, don't forget: according to our mainstream media, whatever happens is good for the Republicans. Abu Ghraib, Katrina, US Attorney purge, both houses of Congress voting to end the war, on and on and on. It's always good for the Republicans. Especially Bush.

Can these reporters possibly be more gullible?

everyone wants the iraq war to end fatty. The distinction is you want it to end in defeat for the US but that's not something you have the courage to admit plainly.

Yep - what's your difficulty? There are progressive Catholic activists and reactionary Catholic activists. Ferguson was one of the latter, before Mommy and Daddy bought him his seat in Congress.
