Life in the Hood

The ace crime reporting team of Ackerman and Yglesias utterly fail to figure out who fired all those shots right by our house.

This has the makings of the most totally copshow episode of bloggingheads evar.

Marty Peretz?

Oh please, Marty wouldn't put his neck out like that and do the dirty work, clearly it was Marty's very own Lloyd, James Kirchick, who fired the shots

That TNR gang will stop at nothing!!

Hasn't Jonathon Chait been at your place before? He's the most likely to know where you live.

"Gunshots! Let's go see!"

Kids today.

Zagnut will suggest illegal immigrants.

Petey will either (a) blame anti-porn feminists, (b) insist that Peter Beinart could have got to the bottom of it or (c) promise that John Edwards will end gunshots in DC.

Steve Sailer will blame those as can't be seen in a blackout.

John Emerson will offer a witty, erudite quote from Dwight MacDonald or Delmore Schwartz on random urban violence.

Katherine will point to the real heart of the issue; I don't know what it is now, but it will be obvious after her 15-word comment.

Pimp hand will .. well, who cares.

I think ogged properly captures the dynamic here. And I'm disappointed I didn't make lemuel pitkin's list.

I choose (c).

Mi gran amigo Lemuel Pitkin escribo:

"Zagnut will suggest illegal immigrants."

Wrong, Lemmy! Zagnut lives a 10-minute walk from where this happened and therefore knows quite well that it wasn't illegal immigrants.

In DC, violent crime = blacks 98%+ of the time. Which is why Spencer Ackerman, in the link, just refers to the teenagers as "thin," without a color reference. No one who's lived in DC needs one.

Y'all should parlay that into a cameo on "The Wire."

I must have missed this by about 10 minutes. I likely wouldn't have had the "we should go look!" reaction.

A lot of DC neighborhoods have listserves with crime info. If youre east of NJ Ave, then you're in Police Service Area (PSA) 501. Otherwise you should check out this map:
http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view,a,1239,Q,544981,mpdcNav_GID,1536.asp

Then you can look up the info on Yahoo groups to see if you've got a listserve in your area. It's totally fascinating to keep tabs on all the crazy s**t that goes down in even the most bougie of DC neighborhoods.
