I'm excited about the idea of a Jazz-Warriors series, but the NBA front office people must not be. When was the last time we had a second round matchup featuring so few recognizable names?

no offense, matthew, but how are we to even understand the question? you and every nba fan are already familiar with lots of the jazz and warriors, and the casual fan doesn't really know tayshaun prince from bruce bowen.
i think what you mean is that these are two clubs with no "team" recognition among casual fans, and without even looking, i bet it ain't as rare as you imagine....
antid oto, sure the warriors are fun and utah is an impressive demonstration in team, but the most entertaining series has to be the spurs-suns rerun of the evergreen classic "fast break vs. set-up" plot.
Depends what entertains you, I guess. To me the Spurs are boring.
I am salivating for a Suns/Golden State matchup. I doubt the basketball G-ds are willing to be that generous - forcing Dallas out the first round was quite a gift already and it would be greedy to ask much more of them.
Sorry about the change of subject, but is anyone else getting kind of tired of Chuck Barkley's clown act? It seems to me that Kenny Smith is. As am I.
Weird ass statistic from Ernie Johnson:
11 teams have won a playoff series after being down 0-2.
8 of those 11 teams have gone on to win the NBA title.
Utah is now the 12th team.
Couldn't happen, could it?
"is anyone else getting kind of tired of Chuck Barkley's clown act? It seems to me that Kenny Smith is."
Kenny Smith being tired of Charles Barkley's clown act is part of Charles Barkley's clown act.
You love the Chuckster even if you don't know you love the Chuckster.
Sloan is going to reveal what a sham avery johnson is as a coach.
AJ is an ex-spur, so that pains me. He knows better than to try to win the championsip in february.
Anyone see the mavs fans turn out to welcome their team home from oakland? grand total of two dudes showed.
antid, not to stretch this out too far, but i like teamwork and execution: can't imagine what's boring about that (as coach sloan would be the first to agree).
"Sloan is going to reveal what a sham avery johnson is as a coach."
Yup. My first thought is that Utah is going to absolutely dismantle Golden State, with your rationale being quite important.
But I've lost my credibility on the topic of Golden State this playoffs.
I'm not saying it's going to be an easy matchup for Golden State, but I will say those predicting Sloan will "dismantle" Nellie in the playoffs don't know the history of Nellie-Sloan playoff matchups.

I agree, but I'm also eager to find out. I can't, personally, envision any way for Golden State to win this matchup, but I have little confidence in my predictive abilities on this score.
Nobody is getting "dismantled" in this series; Utah is not really talented enough to blow out the Warriors. GS will have a much tougher time getting layups than against Dallas, but should get plentiful open 3's. Utah will have some trouble scoring and commit some turnovers, but will also grab ~3 billion offensive rebounds.
I'd say the home team will be a healthy favorite in each game. Utah in 7 is the best bet, and I'd give them 53% to win the series.
'Jazz Warriors' sounds like a fusion project, that might be the opening act for a puppet show, ala Spinal Tap.
Looking at this on paper, you'd assume that Utah would be an "obvious favorite" (nod to Petey) over GS. That said, the Warriors had two blowout wins over Utah in Oakland during the regular season (one with an injured Jason Richardson and without Baron Davis) and almost won one of the two games in Salt Lake City. So I imagine that as long as Baron Davis stays healthy and Stephen Jackson can play despite his trial (starts May 10), the Warriors will compete.

Heh, but still doesn't sound as funny as "Utah Jazz" does to me.
Seriously, if Stephen Jackson's trial keeps him from playing, I'm ready to sign on with the right-wing "hang the activist judges" movement. I think keeping S-Jax out of the playoffs is grounds for impeachment.

Except that this is going to be the most entertaining series of the playoffs. It's a marketing challenge, but it's eminently marketable.
