Scottish Election Punditry

05 May 2007 01:33 pm

Okay, you probably don't "need" to know anything about the Scottish Labour Party's historic defeat at the hands of the Scottish National Party in the regional elections, but Alex Massie's blog is the go-to place for Scottish punditry. See especially here, though this on Gordon Brown may have wider significance.

Alex Massie's blog is the go-to place for Scottish punditry if you support the policies of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.

Alex Massie writes today:

Since the Tories are, or ought to be, the parliaments' leading champions of responsible government, they need to take some risks if they ever want to be influential or even relevant again.

I doubt we would give much credit to an American blogger who wrote that Republicans are, or ought to be, the parliaments' leading champions of responsible government. Andrew Sullivan fantasizes about such an idea but he is no more the go-to guy for American political commentary than Alex Massie is for Scottish political commentary.

We did actually have an election in that other small Celtic vassal-state that you bloody Saxons[1] don't care about, actually.

[1]The Jews are obviously, for the purposes of Celtic nationalist grievance, honorary Saxons.

And we're about to have another big election in yet another Celtic state, Ireland. We need more Hibernoblogging.

That's high praise. From a book review and his contributions to TNR, Massie seemed like a very silly and unserious person. Maybe he's better when speaking of Scotland.

Brittany had an election? Are they going to secede from France?
