Silence is Golden

Mark Cuban seems to have curiously little to say about Dallas' first round meltdown against Golden State.

Perhaps part of the answer is discussed in this post.

Well, part of the answer might be that really, Dirk hadn't been playing that well for the last couple of months (something pointed out by Hollinger today). Whatever the cause, his numbers visibly dropped off after February, so that probably was a factor.

Yes, but Mark Cuban has not-so-curiously little to say about anything directly basketball related on that blog.

Mark Cuban has said that he won't discuss the NBA in gory detail on his blog unless he can discuss the topic freely. Mark Cuban + Fine $$$$ = Not Likely.

Since the NBA sees Cuban fines as a potential big revenue stream for the league, and Cuban seems to see everthing wrong with his fatally flawed team as being somebody else's in the games fault, thus you have big Cuban bloggy silence.

A shame really, because the last two years should have been so humbling for him that it transforms him as an owner, and when rich and powerful people are despondent and in the dumps seems to be when they are the most nakedly candid and honest in their self-critiquing. Almost like regular folks just venting in a bar, except celebrated on TMZ.

For a guy like Cuban, who lets a lot fly out of his mouth as it is, that level of bearing his guts would be extra interesting because his idea of filtering is usually a little different from others in his shoes.

This NBA silence thing is about a month or two old, if you go through the archives back over the last four to eight weeks you'll find the post where Cuban throws up his hands about anymore NBA blogging.

Cuban's postgame remarks from Thursday.

There was another clip they showed on Inside the NBA where a reporter asked if it hurt any more to lose to Don Nelson. Cuban gave a bizarre response in which he likened it to old girlfriends of his marrying guys he knows. Barkley and Kenny Smith followed that up with a colloquy about how Cuban needs some friends who will stay away from his women. This was around 2am Thursday night on TNT, so the details are a little sketchy in my memory.
