You know, I never would have guessed that my New York Post debut was going to be a favorable citation in a John Podhoretz column.

So why didn't the Dems. latch onto the "it'll be better by Sept." statement while it lasted and before they moved the goal-posts?
The Dems. shoulda had a bill ready that said "we'll fund the war till Sept." and if things are going better, we'll continue to fund the war then. But if not, we want you guys to have a plan before we throw more money and lives at the situation rather than bringing our troops home.
Oh wait -- the Dems pretty much did this. It's just that either they didn't sell it that way. Or even if they did, we wouldn't know it 'cause, while the media repeats GOP spin verbatum (identifying it as such and repeating it with a sneer in their voices so the GOP can complain about how liberal the media is), they barely summarize what the Dems. are saying -- so we don't even know if the Dems are doing a good job or not.

Oh no! Pod's a British turncoat?! I was sure that war was over, like, two hundred years ago!

The problem is that you set yourself up for the predictable kabuki dance where September comes along and the usual suspects claim that we're starting to see signs of progress. Since you know how it's going to play out ahead of time, you might as well have the debate right now and save some lives.
Hoping for Peter Vecsey, were you...?
