Byron York's not much of a deviationist, so when he finds himself musing "should deadlines be off limits in the Iraq debate?" and concluding "Maybe at this point, a deadline for the Iraqi government wouldn't be a bad thing" I think you have to see some significance in that development. At long last some of the mainstream right is getting tired of this morass.

Not one comment - for or against - from the rest of the Cornerites.
I would have expected at least one call of "appeaser" or "defeatist." They are fallign down on thier jobs.
I've actually never seen York as a Kool-Aid drinker. He's clearly part of the movement, but that doesn't have to make him a true believer.
York has always intrigued me--most of his NRO stuff is straight reportage, with good investigative stuff (his articles on the corrupt history of Alcee Hastings were authoritative). Though obviously a conservative, his articles have an unmistakable connection to reality--something not always found among the NRO columnists.
Yet at the end of each of his articles is his bio-blurb, listing his latest work as The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy: The Untold Story of How Democratic Operatives, Eccentric Billionaires, Liberal Activists, and Assorted Celebrities Tried to Bring Down a President—and Why They'll Try Even Harder Next Time. In other words, right wing red meat bullshit.
I suppose it pays the bills, but its surprising how many intelligent conservatives whore themselves out to Regnery Publishing. Though I suppose York could be suffering from a case of Ponnuru-itis--to be cursed with a non-representative and needlessly combative title for his intellectually honest and brave expose.

Your new blog colleague Andrew Sullivan even nominated Byron York for the "Yglesias Award."
