Sentenced to die. Human Rights Watch's comprehensive report on Anfal is here. I believe Chemical Ali's key role is here in chapter two. Here are the documents about the US relationship with Iraq at the time.

Huh. The US consistently opposed the use of chemical weapons in Iraq throughout the 80s. Who knew?
Is that a joke, Al?
"Huh. The US consistently opposed the use of chemical weapons in Iraq throughout the 80s. Who knew?"
Certainly not the Kurds.
My wife lived less than 1 hr from Halabja during all of this (and up to a few years ago).
Funny how conservatives love to engage her with WMD justifying comments and questions along the lines of,
"Yes... yes... I know that Iraq is in flames, a minor inconvenience... but arent you glad we came to rescue you from that evil Saddam?"
She tends to snap back at them,
"Where in the hell were you in the during Anfal and during all the other times?"
Indeed.
Where in the hell were we?
And where will we be when the Arabs and Turks turn on the Kurds once again after we leave?

Wait-- what?!? Human Rights Watch? But Chemical Ali is an Arab! Everyone knows HRW only criticizes Israeli Jews.
