It's the war, stupid!
The fantasy is that the voters have all "turned left" when the reality is they are simply war weary. If the whole country has "turned left", you would see the immigration bill sailing through. It didn't. Even the resurrected version looks like it may not make it. I also don't think the public is excited about anyone's version of socialized medicine.

Huh? Immigration is an issue that cuts across both partisan and ideological boundaries. A pro-Labor Left for example would also be opposed to guest workers and to allowing business to simply import workers so as to to do an end run around bargaining withAmerican workers instead.

Now all we have to do is to nominate and elect John Edwards so the mainstream media can figure out that the left turn is for realsies.
