Lizza Versus Richardson

20 Jun 2007 11:38 am

I'm not exactly sure why Ryan Lizza's made it his mission in life to destroy Bill Richardson's already-destined-to-fail presidential campaign, but he's certainly good at it.

Ryan Lizza is "good at it" only if you think criticism consists of distorting reality by hyperventilating about trival issues while ignoring major matters. A form of deceit commonly practiced by our corrupt news media.

Richardson says to pull ALL of our troops out by Iraq by 2007. The other candidates say ..what?

So why doesn't anklebitting Ryan discuss that?

It seems like you could do this to any of the candidates, Democrat or Republican, and come up with a lot of stuff like this. What does it mean? Does it mean that people are people, even politicians, or does it mean that the people who are politicians are more given to mistakes and character flaws?

What Lizza is good at is undermining a candidate's reason for running. George Allen was all set to run for president as a good old boy, common sense, home spun Son of the South. Lizza revealed him as a racist, mysoginistic phoney from California who kept a noose in his Sentate office and spat tobacco juice on women's shoes (Allen's PR man had to follow him around, and whenever he spat near a woman, would have to exclaim to no one in particular: "That's authenticity!" Indeed).

Richardson is running as an experienced foreign policy man. The fact that he did not know France was on the Security Council, refers to all Koreans as "Kim," and doesn't know anything about war legislation (all revealed by Lizza) means he's just a dim-witted Bill Clinton clone.

Lizza would be well served to next pierce the image of Fred Thompson, Rudy Guliani, or Mitt Romney. Plenty of material for him there.

"Does it mean that people are people, even politicians, or does it mean that the people who are politicians are more given to mistakes and character flaws?"

The second one.

I agree with Ben's comment.

The sooner Richardson is out, the better. His lousy campaign is adding nothing. If only we could get Kucinich and Gravel out quickly as well. I don't mind Biden or Dodd.

Why does Lizza spend time on Richardson? Because Richardson has the best and boldest plan among the Democrats to get us out of Iraq. TNR can't abide by that.

Maybe this is a evil plan to hurt all the candidates one by one. And after that America will have no choice but to have a President Lizza.

Interesting dynamic WRT this race so far:

1) John Edwards appears to have become the non-sexual crush of liberal bloggers like MY. Although I doubt Edwards will get the nomination, I can see Matt and others calling themselves "Edwards Democrats" years from now. Far from being a hindrance, liberals seem to like the redneck accent, which they may figure will get more rednecks to vote Democrat.

2) Barack Obama is tempting for MY: how cool would it be to vote for a black candidate? An Ivy-educated, felicitous speaker at that! Close, but MY's still leaning toward JE, because -- although Obama is a traditional liberal Democrat -- he is not as liberal as Edwards.

3) Bill Richardson. Granted, Richardson has been an incompetent campaigner so far, and there is clearly less to him than meets the eye, but his ethnic background doesn't seem to interest Dems nearly as much as Obama's does.

I have mixed feelings toward Richardson, but I think Lizza's doing all of us a service. Not to go all Roger Ailes on you, but if a candidate can't defend himself from the likes of Lizza, how will he defend himself from the GOP smear machine next year?

If this article causes Richardson to implode (and really, I think that probably would have happened anyway), then it's hardly Lizza's fault.

And I agree with Ben that I'd like to see him turn his guns on Thompson or Giuliani next, just because they're both such house-of-cards candidacies.

Close, but MY's still leaning toward JE, because -- although Obama is a traditional liberal Democrat -- he is not as liberal as Edwards.

John Edwards is a southern dem from the DLC playbook, who is playing left for the primary. Barack Obama came up left and got to DC and was co-opted by the powers that be and I'm about done making apolgies for him, but I worked for him, I know his instincts and sympathies and I don't trust Edwards in the same way. Basically, I think Edwards is lying for the primary, and that Obama is lying for the general.

This leaves everyone playing Kremlinolgy, and I'm really, really, unhappy with the state of democracy in America.
