Hottest Media Types Endorsements

24 Jul 2007 03:41 pm

Voting for the hottest media types in DC, 2007 is now open. I've decided that since I have roommates nominated in both the male, off-air and female, off-air categories, I should endorse both of them -- Catherine Andrews and Kriston Capps are totally, totally hot.

UPDATE: Catherine wants me to notify you that you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to vote for her.

Those lists depress me. I've gotta get out of this city.

In the end, I voted for Catherine Andrews. It was her nose that did it. So who the hell is she?

"Catherine wants me to notify you that you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to vote for her."

You should let Catherine know that stuffing the ballot box will result in a victory not worth having.

Gotta go for Garance. This is the sort of thing that people in it will pretend they don't care about but secretly do. (I would be the same, of course.)

Gawddamit, Freddie. A vote for GFR is a vote against catherine. And a vote against catherine is a vote against America.

GFR has admitted that she would be willing to meet the leaders of Iran, Syria, and NoKo, all together, for lunch tomorrow. And she'd pick up the tab.

"Gotta go for Garance"

Why? Do you have progressives too, Freddie?

-----

I did the vote honestly and went for Liz Gorman.

"Why? Do you have progressives too, Freddie?"

Ugh. A typo that won't be successfully deciphered. More precisely:

Why? Do you hate progressives too, Freddie?

No way anyone should ever vote for Garance. I recognize that the chances of the winner cashing in on her "accomplishment" by doing a "HOTTEST DC MEDIA TYPE" nude photo spread or porn video are low in any event, but if Garance wins all hope is crushed.

Now, I would never vote for someone from the Moonie Times, but doesn't it appear that that redheaded girl in the pool is topless (shoulder strap tan lines but no shoulder straps)? Mighty tempting, that....

I'm assuming you meant "hate" progressives, Petey, and no. I think GFR is goddawful as a writer-- she's one of the laziest thinkers I can imagine, and she's forever coming up with inane, "iconclastic" arguments that are incredibly facile. But I'm voting strictly on hotness.

Catherine Andrews is on record as wanting everyone to get laid. I think this renders her significantly hotter for supporting such a platform. And so she deserves our unqualified support.

Is it safe to assume that all the candidates have consented to being objectified in this way? Because if so, I'd like to send Garance a "hubba hubba". But if she's an unwilling participant, I will of course retract it on the grounds that I totally disapprove of such demeaning exercises.

I also voted for Ezra, by the by.

Your campaign seems to be working, Catherine is the run away leader so far

"I recognize that the chances of the winner cashing in on her "accomplishment" by doing a "HOTTEST DC MEDIA TYPE" nude photo spread or porn video are low in any event, but if Garance wins all hope is crushed."

Why? Garance is older than 25, isn't she? Thus, she's not under the age of consent under her guidelines.

On closer inspection, Moonie Times girl appears to be in the water at a tropical beach, which might enhance the chances of toplessness. I dunno, y'all, I'm starting to waver here.

What do you think the odds in Vegas are on Dana Priest winning this competition? 1,000,000-1? 1,000,000,000-1? Is the number even quantifiable without the use of exponents?

I find the fact that you can instantly know everyone's percentage very depressing. Couldn't they just announce the winner at the end? What about the poor souls who get really low numbers? It's like high school.

My votes:

Male, On Air: Greg Kelly, FOX (in a gay way)
Female, On Air: Al Jazeera/death-to-America Babe

Male Off Air: write in Max Sawicky Hottie Studmuffin
Female Off Air: Franke-Ruta

Male PR: none they're all evil
Female PR: I wanna party with the Gail Ross Agency!

So far no votes for the Pickler which is *awesome*.

What about the poor souls who get really low numbers? It's like high school.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that the pictures are of wildly varying quality. Some of the low-polling people are no doubt objectively quite attractive but are not being done justice by their photos.

Seriously, who fucking cares if someone doesn't get votes? All of the women are great looking, and I'm sure that basic truth (for good and ill) is reflected in their lives. I hope they don't care at all, beyond bragging rights.

And I hope catherine calls each and every one of them and leaves a voice mail message that consists of nothing but laughter.

Actually, I went for Robin Wright--I remember thinking she was hot when she was reporting from Africa for CBS back in the 1970s. Besides, we middle-aged have to stick together; the deck's really stacked against us here.

I love that the Al Jazeera hostess is in the lead for "on air" personalities. All men, regardless of political idealogy, are capable of putting aside their differences in pursuit of the hottest woman in the room.

An example of Ryan's point is the photo for Sarah Feinberg (in the PR females), which makes her look like she's wearing clown makeup.

What are you, a robot? People care about stupid stuff, even when they know they shouldn't. Especially when it comes to physical attractiveness.

Also how come Kriston Capps gets into this thing and no MY.... They have the exact same look.

And what in gods name is Bill Press doing in here?

Well... never thought I'd cast a vote in Tom DeLay's direction but Shannon Flaherty seems to have been designed with my specifications in mind.

seems to have been designed with my specifications in mind

Ew.

(The comment, not the woman.)

It's so ironic on so many levels that the hottest of the on-air talent women is from Al-Jazeera. Besides her, this list looks like it was compiled in Connecticut or Vermont. Are there really no hot East Asian women in the DC media unlike the rest of America?

this list looks like it was compiled in Connecticut or Vermont

Are you kidding? New England has way hotter women than, say, the Midwest.

Kriston? I know he's your roomie and now long-time bud, but please.

Gotta go with Ezra -- also your friend and actually hot. I've had a little crush on him for a long time.

And of course Catherine.

Oh my Allah, that al-Jazeera babe is hot. Why don't I get al-Jazeera on my cable? She might even cause me to watch the news for the first time in a decade.

Aren't Muslim women supposed to avoid drawing sexual attention from men other than their husbands? She' doing an awfully poor job.

Thanks for pushing some machine politics on me, Matt! Otherwise I probably would've had to go for the Moonie redhead at the beach.

Do I get anything in return for voting the way the machine told me to, like they did in the old days? In an election like this, I wonder what sorts of favors the ward boss would hook me up with.

Sangfroid826's link, it must be said, also features Kriston calling some dude a douchebag while Kriston himself is sporting a bandana. Just saying.

Seriously, how can that blond hottie at the bottom, Bridget Garwood, not just be trouncing everyone. Y'all are crazy.

The dreaded Yglesias endorsement! It's doomed many a candidate before...

and wow, Kriston Capps has to be about the least hot dude I've ever seen. Sorry bro.

MY's readership has some serious loyalty -- or some serious bad taste. Probably both.

Maybe Matt should write another post about how he went to high school at Dalton (probably with other ugly over-privileged prats).

If you like hot Muslim newscasters, check out Mishal Husain of the BBC. She is dreamy.

No way, dude, some serious hotties at Dalton. Lots of kids of rich men and their trophy wives. This girl, for example, was in my class.

Hey, my urban public high school had this girl....

(This is an accumulated view from reading this post and many other previous ones.)

You think Garance is not progressive because of the whole GGW thing? Ha. Actually most of you guys are most assuredly not "progressive". More likely you are the stereotypical bourgeois, urban, "liberal" male-- someone who is ridiculously concerned primarily with keeping the government and feminists away from his God given right to own porn, women be damned. You probably think you have really enlightened view of women and sexuality, but most of what I've read from men on this site (minus MY and a few others) sounds terribly like the status quo, and thus not truly progressive. How is your talk about women/objectification/porn/whatever different from the status quo? or different from some conservative redneck in Kansas who has some of the same views of women as you? A lot of you sound exactly like some retro misogynist.

I think "liberal" men need to actually own up to the fact that they aren't really progressive in regard to their views of women, particularly where it concerns sexuality and pornography. And no, the current belief among "liberal" men that its "progressive" to allow women to be demeaned and dehumanized (mainstream, not bdsm) in porn as it currently is, is not legitimate, or the widespread belief that most women in the sex industry legitimately chose to go into it because they think "Hey! This would be like totally awesome!", while mostly ignoring the high rates of past sexual abuse or the economic desperation among porn actresses/strippers/prostitutes. Oh yeah, like, that's totally progressive!

I will give you guys credit though for not "slutshaming" women and believing in reproductive freedom. But how is that different from a social libertarian? Where exactly do your progressive values appear in these issues?

What I found the most obscene was the ratio of off-air hotties to on-air...it's astounding! Those off-air girls need some onscreen play, perhaps in HD...Mark Cuban, are you listening?

"You think Garance is not progressive because of the whole GGW thing? Ha."

FWIW, I thought Garance was an anti-progressive long before "the whole GGW thing". It's the politics she espouses and the choices of who she attacks that brought about my conclusion.

How is your talk about women/objectification/porn/whatever different from the status quo?

Porn is really the operative term there. It's not "whatever". There may be a subset there in observing female sexuality at all. This is *really* getting into people's business here, and on this subject I may be guilty of liberalism, but I do think people should be able to do what they feel like with their genitals. I happen to prefer written erotica when I'm bored and I'm willing to bet that regardless of the lack of women being chain-ganged into making it, it would still be something to scrutinize for patriarchalism.

Years ago, I used to be a bartender and flirt with older women who tipped obscenely well. A few times, I took enough money to feel like it would be impolite not to sleep with them. I felt way more used and degraded when I had to clean puke out of the bathroom.

Kate, have you been to a college lately? A lot of progressive women today enjoy watching porn (straight, gay and lesbian) for a laugh. First-wave feminism is dead. Dworkin is dead and that's so much the better for feminism. Fourth-wave feminism has past you by and left you in the past with pantsuits with padded shoulders.

"while mostly ignoring the high rates of past sexual abuse or the economic desperation among porn actresses/strippers/prostitutes. Oh yeah, like, that's totally progressive!"

Who do you think feel more exploited, prostitutes working in a legal, regulated environment like Amsterdam or prostitutes working in an environment where doing so is illegal? Yes, prostitution is exploitive, but capitalism in general is exploitive. The only people who have never been exploited are people who have never worked. Personally, I have moral issues with johns who hire prostitutes, but keeping it legal is probably better for those in the business. It also isn't contradictory to believe prostitution should be legal and that society should provide prostitutes, strippers, etc. with access to free therapy, for example. Criminalizing the sex trade won't make the pre-existing incidents of sexual abuse for potential performers go away.

"But how is that different from a social libertarian? Where exactly do your progressive values appear in these issues?"

On social issues (I'm counting healthcare and education as non-social issues here), liberals and progressives have long pretty much been social libertarians, with the major exceptions of affirmative action for racial and ethnic minorities and women (which is education-related) and Hillary Clinton's idea of allowing access to free, clean needles to drug users (which is healthcare-related). On drug de-criminalization, medical marijuana, television content, abortion, prostitution, etc. liberals have taken pretty much a laissez-faire attitude out of the belief that prohibitions on these have tended to create too many negative unforeseen consequences and side effects. Immigration is another issue where liberals today tend to take a more libertarian approach, being in favor of cosmopolitanism and the free mobility of labor, but this is more controversial. A liberal today would not be in favor of criminalizing the sale of alcohol, for example. That's more the realm of the big government conservative. Liberals today tend to see the state as more useful for things like environmental regulations, enforcing the minimum wage, providing free healthcare and other such things that are very much related to economic issues.

There is something of that "Washington is like Hollywood for ugly people" thing going on with this bizarre contest, but I'll just mention that having radio people be "on-air" is a little odd, since they are on air, but you can't see them. That's by way of saying I've heard Ari Shapiro's voice on NPR many times (although I can't remember off the top of my head what he said--I just remember his name), and in that picture, at least, he's pretty cute, but how would you ever know?

I think "liberal" men need to actually own up to the fact that they aren't really progressive in regard to their views of women, particularly where it concerns sexuality and pornography.

I don't know if they are progressive values or not, but freedom of expression, and the freedom to choose to have sex in whatever context you want, are values that I find completely in tune with the rest of my political views.

I very nearly sold out my ideals and voted for Kerry Howley, but aesthetic Stalinism ultimately triumphed. I voted for Liz Gorman, with Garance a close second.

She was in my 5th grade class.

Sorry MY,

I appreciate the effort, but my vote was for GFR and it wasn't even close. Though something about voting for something in one of these things, when the person you voted for almost surely objects to the whole objectifying concept is odd in an infinite recursion sort of way.

Garance. None of the others even come close.
