Fresh Libby-bashing at the Plank here and here. Plus an excellent piece from Sandy Levinson on "Scooter Libby and the Constitutional Crisis." Sentiments expressed here by me are now inoperative.

Don't let this put you off snarking.. even premature snarking.
matt,
it's not that we don't take seriously ANYONE who works for the racist chauvinist who edits that odious magazine, it's that we doubt the intellectual capacities of those who do take seriously ANYONE who works for the Raving Racist who edits The New Reichstag.
Orr or Zengerle working for a racist asshole is their problem, but when you cite them as credible sources on anything, well, now it's you who has become the problem.
Hey look, Christopher Orr has an update in which he criticizes Peretz directly.
I think you'll want to take back your retraction after you read James Kirchick's latest post. What an absolute wanker that guy is.
Kirchick's piece is titled "An Absurd Sentence," and I'm inclined to agree. Every sentence in his post is absurd. Especially this one:
If one requires any more evidence that this was a show-trial meant to prove a political point, it's all contained in that footnote.
(The footnote in question is the one where the judge mocks all the good folk who filed amicus briefs on Libby's behalf during sentencing.)
Thank you for your retraction. Of course there is plenty to criticize in TNR's blogging on the subject, but the notion that Peretz is the puppet master just doesn't pan out...
I know Peretz is a terrible human being -- but sometimes it is shocking just how horrible he is.
