MJ Rosenberg and Ezra Klein hop on the bandwagon of liberals who definitely won't vote for Mitt Romney, but would choose him over Fred Thompson, John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani if forced to do so.

I can't believe more folks aren't writing about the Edwards/Clinton open-mike video. (No link because I can't post links.) That's damn juicy stuff.
Beyond all the other gossipy aspects, I love it because it's a glimpse of the future:
You get a peek at the coming working relationship between President Edwards and Senate Majority Leader Clinton as they work to push through the Edwards universal healthcare plan.
I can understand why he would vote for Romney over McCain or Guiliani, but I'm not sure I see the case for Romney over Thompson. Thompson is just a generic empty suit conservative hack. Romney is willing to say or do anything for power (see also: being for abortion before he was against it and wanting to double Gitmo).
Moot point anyway as none of us are forced to vote for a Republican and barring some unforeseen scandal or miraculous successful conclusion of the Iraq occupation, a Republican isn't winning the White House next year.
As someone who lived under Gov. Willard Mittlethwaite Romney, I must disagree. The guy's transparent opportunism is just too much to bear, and the fact that he is now going around the country cracking laugh lines at the expense of the state he just got finished governing (sic) really sticks in my craw.
McCain, although a war monger, would be better than the empty salesman and professional private equity/liar guy that is Mittens. McCain at least acts like a human being rather than some freakishly ambitious Seventh Heaven cast-member. There's no telling what Mitt would sacrafice -- the Constitution, the general welfare -- in order to get in the right client/constituency's pocket.
Pretty soon, I predict, the country will get to know Mitt, will find out that he is really stupendously strange (like his family's habit of spending quality time sitting together _in total darkness_) and will tire of his bullshit, as we in the Commonwealth did.
Six McCains, a half-dozen Romneys. Any vote for a Republican is a vote to continue the policies and governing methods of the last seven years. The basic nature of the party is not going to change as long as it's in power.
Personally, I'll go with either Abe Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt. All the other contenders simply don't measure up.
And in other news, Erza Klein won't vote for Jeb Bush. What's the point of this post? Of course they aren't going to vote for ANY conservative.
Rosenberg's post pretty much nails why I find myself rooting for Romney in the Republican primary. He's also shooting himself in the foot in the race for independents more than any of the other repubs with his hard run to the social right.
I think Thompson is the least likely to see war as an alternate means of sexual gratification. This makes him tops in my book among Republicans.
Which member of the Three Stooges would you rather see as president? Mo? Larry? Curley ? Or Shemp?

I might choose McCain over Romney. Other than on the war he is not that bad. He would preside over a more effective, transparent government at least, and would not tolerate many of the constitutional abuses of the Bush era. Romney, on the other hand, would be in the pocket of the base the whole time and would probably pursue terrible domestic policies. I don't really buy the idea that he is the "least bad." He sucks.
