Tim Donaghy

Hasn't been one of the NBA's better-known officials, but that's about to change as he turns out to be the one accused of betting on games and slanting his officiating to help cover spreads.

Oddly enough, he's one of the fairer refs. Oh brother!

Maybe it's because he was doing something illegal, and had to ref very fairly when he could.

He wouldn't happen to have officiated the finals between Dallas and Miami last year, would he? I still get irritated when I remember Dirk Nowitski getting called with a foul for getting punched in the face by Dwayne Wade.

He didn't officiate those Finals. You can plug in the date at the end of URLs like this one:

2007: The Year of the Ref

Examples:

Dick Bavetta's footrace with Charles.
Joey Crawford challenges Tim Duncan to fight, is suspended, and quits (apparently).
UPenn study shows racial bias in NBA refs' calls.
League's most likeable team, Phoenix, roughed up in play-offs by San Antonio, refs.
And now an NBA ref is accused of betting on games, and working with the Mafia (!?!).

Is the pressure getting to these guys?
