Madmen

I watched this somewhat widely praised show for the first time last night, and while my brother kept complaining it was "boring" the obvious fact of the matter was that he was missing the key point that the main theme of the episode was the incontrollable sense of jealously inspired when a colleague of yours publishes something in The Atlantic Monthly. Of all the timeless elements of the human condition this is, perhaps, the one that's been least explored thus far on the small screen and I commend Madmen for raising the topic and facing it squarely.

How often have you actually gotten published in the actual Atlantic, as opposed to just the doofy blog portal? Or is this about your uncontrollable sense of jealousy for Douthat?

^^ lol

I personally thought the show was boring...it was the same as any other, just set in a time when you could smoke at work and girls wore pointy bras.

And, I just won dinner from my BF, bet him that one of you all would post on this today.

I just want to make clear that I, the person of this name who posts here often, have nothing to do with this show. I don't know about this "m-dub" person though.

Ha! I have loved this show so far, although I think last night may have been the weakest episode, despite the shout out for The Atlantic.

Mr. Fallows must be pleased, though.

We hate it when our friends become successful
We hate it when our friends become successful
Oh, look at those clothes
Now look at that face, it's so old
And such a video !
Well, it's really laughable
Ha, ha, ha ...

We hate it when our friends become successful
And if they're Northern, that makes it even worse
And if we can destroy them
You bet your life we will
Destroy them
If we can hurt them
Well, we may as well ...
It's really laughable
Ha, ha, ha ...

You see, it should've been me
It could've been me
Everybody knows
Everybody says so
They say

Is it about making Madonna videos?

I don't want to sow discord in your happy family, but have you considered the possibility that your brother might be all too familiar with "the incontrollable sense of jealously inspired when [someone] publishes something in The Atlantic Monthly." Frankly, I find everything about people being envious of something I have never managed to do very very uhm "boring".

Also why the hell isn't the kid meta video blogging anymore ? He's a natural.

I love the idea that the Atlantic is "all over the newsstands"

So your brother knew that Don Draper (not his real name) was carrying money in the briefcase and not a gun?
