Nickname Squad

17 Aug 2007 09:07 am

This Post article about the DCPD's database of nicknames that they use to identify people:

The repository has thousands of entries -- such as Fat Boy, Boo Boo, Meatball, Money Cash, Big Stupid, Butter, P-Funk, Dirt and Ed Lover. Many evoke real or fictional gangsters -- Gotti, Godfather, Corleone.

I think I might start going by "Big Stupid."

Why not the "Big Pastrami"?

"P-Funk" is much cooler than "Corleone."

Come on -- you're the Big Butter and Egg Man.

Shortly before his death, Richard Nixon was quoted that he enjoyed listening to music with his grandchildren and that if he were a young man, he'd like to be a rapper.

Spy magazine took the logical next step and asked actual rappers what Nixon's street name should be. Beyond the obvious Tricky Dick and Slick Rick, someone came up with the awesome Watergate Love.

Nixon's dead, so that's the one I'd take (and for the civic minded DC criminal, it shows a little hometown pride).

Wee-bay, Stringer Bell, Stinkum, Bird, Little Man....

Ed Lover has turned to a life of crime? That's awful.

The girls at a bar in Adams Morgan suggested "Small Willie"

Then hooted with laughter for some reason.

How about shortening your previous nick "Big Media" to its initials? Atlantic Monthly could then \ be "AM". BM in the AM makes my day.

Given the strong support for education and Edwards in the post above, I thought you would have gone for "ed lover". Anyway in my book you're gonna be "chipmunk cheeks" unless Clinton is elected, and the secret service requisitions the nickname.

Then I will call you "Diogenes' Lantern Jaw"

I think there's too much competition among the DC pundit class for "Big Stupid".

The great thing about "Big Stupid" is that, as with the Sopranos' "Big Pussy", it implies that somewhere there's a "Little Stupid" with whom you wish not to be confused.

Big Stupid? There's someone called that other than Bix Dugan in The Girl In Lover's Lane?

Danny Winslow: I'm Danny. Danny Winslow. What's your name?
Bix Dugan: [mumbling] Bix Dugan.
Joel: Big Stupid?

Have to admit, "Matthew Yglesias" does rather defy the "T-Mac/A-Rod" nickname convention.

I wouldn't be sure how to pronounce "M-Ygl."

Sweet MST3K reference, Sarcastro.

if Ed Lover is now a criminal, what about Doctor Dre (the fat one)?

is doing the Ed Lover dance now considered gang behavior by the nypd?
