Offseason Basketblogging

Haven't had an NBA post around here in forever, so am I crazy or is RZA wearing a Jared Jeffries jersey in this video?

Does the world really contain Jared Jeffries fans? My dad, a Knicks season ticket holder, is not enthusiastic about the Zach Randolph Era.

UPDATE: It seems that it's an Allan Houston jersey and the video's from back in the day.

I was at a Flames game last winter and saw someone wearing a jersey from a defenseman who had one good year and a couple bad ones with the team in the mid-90s...

The Randolph era - yeah that worked out so well in Portland didn't it? On the plus side he could average 30 points a night in the East - at the expense of anyone else ever touching the ball.

Of course, he'll give up almost as many on the other end of the court.

And there is way more opportunity to get into trouble off the court in NYC - though we do have strip clubs on every other block in Portland.

I have a certain fondness for Jared Jeffries, since he led my alma mater to the Final Four. But I don't think a player who racks up 4 points per game on a lousy team would have many "fans," no.

Digital Bullet came out in 2001 so it's gotta be somebody else.

Who was wearing 20 for the Knicks 6 years ago?

If you watch until the end of the video, you'll see it is a throwback Allan Houston jersey.

Allan Houston.

Ahh yes, good spot, makes sense, H20. Although not a throwback, as the video came out during the Houston heyday.

Since Allan Houston is attempting a comeback, maybe the jersey won't be such a throwback after all.

Ahh, Allan Houston. Has there ever been a sweeter jump shot?

The Allan Houston contract was the beginning of the end. This is a good time to look back, take stock of the shitty last decade or so of Knicks fandom.

Ray Allen. Chris Mullin.

The thing you notice in that video is the Knicks jersey?

Yes, you are crazy.

The Zack attack in New York will at least provide you with a good amount of NBA material. Just waiting till the Dolan family is exiled from NY.

As someone who's been to around 30 Wizards games, I have to say, you really can't appreciate the genius of Jared Jeffries until you see him in person. It's impossible to imagine a human being so inept with a basketball in his hands. You know that scene in Bull Durham where Crash stands calmly and dares Nuke to throw into his chest, never wavering because he knows Nuke will never hit him? I would hand JJ a knife, stand 20 feet away, and tell him he can stab me in the gut if he can dribble the ball all the way over to me with his other hand.

It's gonna sound weird, but keep an eye out for the SportsCentury on Bevo Francis. He was uncanny. It's like the ball is metal and there's a huge magnet at the bottom of the net. Didn't have any other talents to speak of, but the guy ran up the score like no other player in the sport's history.

This reminds me of the time about a year ago when I saw a guy at the grocery store in a David Akers jersey. Now, David Akers is a fine placekicker, I'm not suggesting he isn't. The thing is, I was in Akron.

If there are any Jeffries fans out there they'll end up here:
