For the record, I did get my Manny's pastrami sandwich while in Chicago. I was, however, a bit disturbed to learn that the place is open on Saturday but closed on Sunday, which is just absurdly un-authentic. The food, however, is great.

Well, la-di-da, Yglesias. Who are you, Annie Hall?
I'm sure G** will smite them soon.
Manny's! YES! I love that place and miss it so much since I moved away! Not only is the food great but it's pure Chicago--a cross-section of the city eats there.
My best political sighting was there. I spotted ex-Gov George Ryan there after he left office but before he was indicted!
What's Pastrami?
Shouldn't you stop calling it a sandwich at the point where you need a fork to eat it?
A pile of meat with a couple of slices of bread in close proximity isn't really a sandwich ...
I want that latke.
Damn, that looks good. I'm going to Katz's.
"Hi, I'd like a pastrami sandwich; hold the bread."
Looks good, though! I had a pastrami sandwich last summer at Jason's Deli in Atlanta. Even though it was $8, there was so much pastrami in it that I swear they lost money on it.
Forget the pastrami -- get the corned beef at Manny's. Wait till you go to Katz's for pastrami.
As far as being open on Saturday and closed on Sunday, well, that's how we do things here.
I felt similar angst today when I found out Chik-Filet doesn't open on Sundays either. We tried two of them and they were both closed. We were forced to go into a mall to get our milkshake fix.
How dare you eat meat, you cretin.
I like pastrami, but that's an unflattering picture. It needs back lighting or something.
Is that one piece of really sour pickle and one of new or mild pickle? That's how P.J. Bernstein's in NY does it.
A latke? Looks more like a piece of schnitzel to me (who's right, MY?). And what are either doing in a plate of pastrami? (And, no, Hal, they're both quarters of "new" --aka tasteless-- pickle. Full sours are much darker.)
