Excellent deadpan from Matt Stoller: "I'm a little worried about upcoming fights over funding for Iraq, inasmuch as they might distract us from discussing the Moveon ad."

That is pretty funny. It also speaks to how stupid the DC establishment is. They are so contemptible.

The joke would work for Stoller only if he were not spending all his time discussing Move On.

Since he is, the the joke does not.

Not so funny.

You do not understand the Iraq War unless you grasp that it actually is an attack on the 1960's, the Vietnam War protesters, and the like ( essentially the moveon types. ) Iraq was invaded in order to prove them wrong, to provide an opportunity to parade around with Yellow Ribbons on one's SUV, and to castigate the "unpatriotic" war opponents.

The Iraqis merely got caught in the crossfire.

Its a good thing no prominent radio hosts have called for imprsionment and/or execution of members of Congress* on charges of treason, 'cause that'd be so over the top, we wouldn't hear the end of it for months.

*Democrats not eligible

how very droll.

I'm with Armando. I might be more inclined to laugh if I hadn't read all of Stoller's breathless posting about how the lack of courage of Dems on MoveOn, about damning Barack Obama to his own very special place in Hell, etc etc.

I'm amused at the irony, of course. Laugh at Stoller, not with him.

This illustrates the STUPIDITY of the Moveon ad -- it allowed the Republicans to duck the real issues in a dishonest fashion --which was to be expected -- and to steer the debate off into the weeds over claims of attacking the military.

I'm not even trying to defend Petraeus -- I'm trying to defend INTELLIGENCE. Petraeus is not the decision maker -- it is George Bush and Republican members of Congress. Petraeus is not deciding to sacrifice the lives of a 1000 more soldiers for dubious reasons and political motivations -- it is the Republicans. PEtraeus is not to blame for the Iraq War -- it is the Republicans.

The Stupid Shit Moveon group fell into Bush's trap and gave Petraeus a role/authority that Petraeus DOES not have. They thereby hurt the entire anti-war effort.

Why can't these stupid shits run ads attacking the deceit of Fox News, Republicans Members of COngress, and George Bush --instead of attacking
an Army officer stuck with following orders?

Why can't these stupid shits simply ask the country WHY Bush should be allowed to kill 1000+ more Americans simply to salvage an indefensible decision. Why does these stupid shits ALWAYS let the Republicans and the Neocons frame the discussions?

MoveOn could not have fucked up worst if Karl Rove --or Haim Saban/the Israel Lobby -- had stuck an agent provocateur in the midst of their senior decision makers to sabotage their movement. If I was running Moveon, I would actually investigate that possibility. Though Occam's Razor suggests simple stupidity is probably the answer.

Why doesn't anyone ask the American people how sending a 1000 more soldiers to their deaths -- and thousands more to the VA Hospitals for the rest of their life -- for no good reason constitutes "Supporting the Troops"

Assholes like William Kristol, Dick Cheney and Republican Members of COngress have deeply betrayed our military -- so why do they get to wave the Flag??

Why does NO one CONSTANTLY remind the American people of what lying shitheads those people are??
Why hasn't William Kristol, Dick Cheney etc not been driven from public life for what they've done? WHy aren't Fox News ratings in the toilet?

Why can't Moveon FOCUS precisely on who the ENEMY is -- instead of firing shotgun blasts at the surrounding landscape with no aim or purpose??

This is no Funny Business!!

Oh for Chrissakes.

MoveOn is a private organiztion that speaks for itself. How can it - or anybody - possibly be held to such a standard?

What are we supposed to do? Walk around on eggshells lest the big bad Republicans take what we say and use it for some strange reason?

This is too phony and contrived.

The MoveOn ad gave the GOPers an excuse to spout certain talking points, like:

1) A military uniform makes a man's "integrity" sacrosanct.
2) American politicians must "fear to irritate" the US military more than they "fear to irritate" citizen groups.
3) We are THIS CLOSE to victory in Iraq.

Sometimes, the best way to show how wrongheaded your opponents are is to give them a chance to talk. Works with Iranian presidents, works with GOPers, works with simpletons who seem to think the nation exists to serve its military rather than the other way around.

Move-on might have made a tactical error or done something more 'Rovian' in its ethics than we might like. But why do the Dems cringingly apologize for something a) they didn't do, b) no worse than those 'purple heart band-aids' at the Republican (authoritarian) convention in '04?

"I'm a little worried about upcoming fights over funding for Iraq, inasmuch as they might distract us from discussing the Moveon ad."

No chance that will happen as there won't be any fights over funding for Iraq. There will be the usual token b.s by Pelosi/Reid as a sop to the Daily Kos crowd, after which they proceed to please AIPAC, etc.
