You know what this blog needs? More hip-hop videos. "Stonger" by Kanye West:
I don't think that's what Japan's really like.

It's a weak tribute to "Akira", for those keeping score. The Japanese flashing on the screen is laughable to say the least.
Whatever happened to those series-of-horizontal-slats sunglasses? The OJ reference is marketing genius. How'd Kanye know?!
"So in other words, you're Hillary Clinton to Ezra's John Edwards..." We should be honored by his lateness.
"Stonger"?!? Whatchu talking 'bout, Yglesias?
Are you and Ezra telepathically connected? And I also wondered how Kayne knew OJ was going to be back in the news just in time to give his song more publicity....
Clearly, Sir, you've never been to Japan.
Japan's not like that? Shows what you know. They're making an army of psychic robot Kanyes even as we speak
Tetsuo!!!! Kaneda!!!! Akira...Daft Punk...did that even need Kanye West? And what is it with hip hop artists sampling Daft Punk?
Censorship! We can handle naughty language!
In addition to the Akira shots, the video is a pretty clear ripoff of the Mad Capsule Markets video "Scary": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2oEoOQ5yWQ Well, whatever. I'm sure Kanye didn't know.
Matt's right - Japan is not (all) like that. Before I had to go on business, it was the last place I ever wanted to visit. That was 6 years ago, and I think about Japan at least once daily. It rocks, but the reason I write is to conjecture that JAPAN HAS YGLESIAS WRITTEN ALL OVER IT. It's for you Matt, trust me.
Scrolling pop-up ads? Really? Shouldn't you have gotten something in your contract barring those? I'll still read you in RSS, but it makes me really hesitant to actually load the Atlantic site.
I too was shocked by the scrolling pop-up. For shame. Kanye + Daft Punk = Greatness.
Japan does indeed rock. Possibly for the reasons Tokorode thinks it does...and possibly not.
