Sunday NFL Telecast Blogging

First 'skins game of the season: excellent. CBS not broadcasting the game in HD for some reason: not at all excellent. I'm a little baffled by this decision. At this point in time, virtually all sporting events seem to be available in HD and nothing get better ratings than the NFL.

UPDATE: HD now on. Yglesias gets results.

So you watch the NFL. Interesting. I thought maybe you just watched the NBA out of some indie-snob sensibility of watching a sport you can only find on obscure basic cable stations.

This guy publishes weekly NFL broadcast maps, including what's in HD. This week, 5 of 6 CBS games are in HD.

Why on earth would you want to watch two of the league's most craptastic teams struggle to a 7-3 halftime in HD?

I'd think that kind of game would be best viewed through a pin hole in a piece of cardboard.

Ooh, bummer Matt, that was one mighty exciting, if totally meaningless last play.

Uno's in Harvard square has these giant flat panels all over the walls, but doesn't get the HD coverage. We asked them to switch it and they said they couldn't. Had to watch the entire Chargers game all fuzzy. Wtf?

Some people really don't get what those big screens are for. My gym -- also in Cambridge MA, as it happens -- got 3 or 4 flat-screens a few months ago, but didn't get any HD service, nor did they even hook up the DVD players properly (probably because they have to share signal with non-16x9 sets) -- so everything on those screens is stretched and looks horrible.

I don't think ESPN is all that obscure. It seems to me they even show NFL games.

Whoa - teh Yglesias respond in teh comment! Is miracle!!!!!1
