Best Nickname Competition

16 Oct 2007 11:45 am

Now that he's secured the support of retired major general James "Spider" Marks, I think Mitt Romney can add "best surrogate nickname" to good poll numbers in the early states and a Mormon fundraising network in terms of key campaign strengths. Any other contenders in the cool surrogate nickname field?

I think James "Skid" Marks would sound cooler.

James "Karl" Marks?
James "Scorch" Marks?

General John "The Mad Arab" Abizaid has been quiet so far...
But really, there's been no one on the political scene recently to match "Scooter" Libby.

David "Mudcat" Saunders, for John Edwards?

I nominate "Mudcat" what's-his-name who works for Edwards.

He had to find a replacement for Larry "Wide Stance" Craig.

Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Wierd and Gilly,
The Spiders from Marks.
He played it left hand, but made it too far,
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's Band.

I first read this as James "Spader" Marks, which I think is a great nickname.

1) Does Romney's James "Spider" Marks endorsement counter Giuliani being endorsed by John "Skid Marks" Podhoretz?

2) Does CNN/NBC/FOX disclose these endorsements each time these contributors appear on air to discuss politics? If no, why?

Romney's also got Gen. John "Soup" Campbell.

And this isn't a nickname, but Giuliani has an adviser by the name of Robert Conquest, which is very appropriate (but can it take on the liberal duo of [Samantha] Power and [Anne-Marie] Slaughter?).
