Scarier Giuliani Foreign Policy Advisor Contest

13 Oct 2007 08:19 am

Matthew Duss makes a strong case that we should be even more frightened by Daniel Pipes' association with Rudy Giuliani than we are by Norm Podhoretz or Michael Rubin. Duss notes, for example, that Pipes appears to regard the Israel-Egypt peace agreement that's held up for over a quarter century now as some kind of ruse on the part of the perfidious Arabs.

I think polls showing Americans dissatisfied with the drudgery and confusion of an apparently endless, unwinnable war hide a troublesome reality. A new threat, another stateside terrorist attack would revive the xenophobic nationalism we saw Bush stoke as he yelled through the bullhorn atop the rubble of the Towers. Current opinion in most political circles has Democrats regaining the Presidency in '09. I say Giuliani (if he is his party's nominee) would be perfectly poised to win if such an attack was fortuitously timed in relation to the election. He possesses the worst of Bush's Machiavellian traits combined with a maniacal, militant persona that leads one to believe he's perfectly capable of unleashing a new Holocaust on Muslims and brown people "over there". That's precisely what the nation would be in the mood for upon a 9/11 redux.

Pipes is a nasty loon, but we're well past the ceiling on scary here, particularly since these guys are competing with/feeding/egging each other on. At the going rate one of them will be suggesting the thing to do is to invent a vampire zombie plague to wipe out all the arabs, and when we're done, we would then make a burnt offering out of the zombie vampire corpses.

['All possible versions of Ralph "Il Duce" Guilani are scary.']

Pipes might be a "nasty loon," but he is also a particular kind of scholar with knowledge of the Middle East. His work on Islamic extremism and the perfidious nature of Islamism clearly meshes with Guiliani's dark vision of the world and concomitant push for American bellicosity. But he might have some positive influence on the candidate if he gets him to understand some basic fundamentals about the region. I don't think Podhoretz can play that type of role, and Guiliani's public statements about the Middle East sugggest that he is badly in need of a tutorial.

Don't forget that David Frum signed on "as a senior policy adviser" with Rudy this week.

It appears to be obvious that the neocons are signing on with Giuliani. Apoparently, MR. Don Williams favorite scapegoat, Haim Saben hasn't gotten his instructions from their handlers at the International Zionist Conspiracy yet as he's still backing Ms. Clinton.

Yes, Pipes is a pretty interesting fellow...

I seem to remember that just after 9/11, Commentary ran a big lead article by Pipes arguing that the greatest threat of Radical Islam to the United States was...that Islamicist preachers planned to convert the majority of the American population to radical Islam, and thereafter establish Sharia law.

Since Commentary had some time before run a big article arguing (probably correctly) that the number of Muslims in America was often exaggerated, and was mostly likely around 1%, Pipes' vision of a majority-Islamic America really left me quaking in my boots...

Although the notion of a Moslem majority in the US is piffle, the threat of application of the Sharia law in countries where islamicists take over from secular Muslims is anything but. Case in point, the Gaza strip where the Hamas party which outsted the secular Fatah party in a coup is is quickly establishing Sharia law therein.

Wow!

It does indeed appear that we've finally located a Jewish activist even crazier and more extreme than our good friend SLC, namely Giuliani-advisor Daniel Pipes...

Perhaps we should all start lobbying the Giuliani campaign to moderate their Mid-East policy group by adding SLC to it...

SLC, is it possible for you not to despise Moslems even when you are mellowing? Is it possible, case in point?

Re Jennifer

If Ms. Jennifer thinks that I despise Muslims, she should read Christopher Hitchens' book, "God is Not Great."

Giuliani cleaned up NYC viewing the criminal world in black vs white (them vs us) terms, but now he has simplistically fallen into the neocon/Zionist trap of viewing the rest of the world in the same way, demonizing 1.3 billion Muslims. Thus he was flabbergasted at Ron Paul's astute observation that 9/11 was blowback for our anti-Muslim foreign policy which must change.

Two more folks who apparently are ignoring the marching orders from the International Zionist Conspiracy. What will Mr. Don Williams say?

Ah another refreshing trip to Hamas corner. Jeffrey Goldberg's book on Hamas activists is invaluable to understanding you folks. All right what do we get for our 3 billion dollar contribution to Egypt, home of the muslim Brotherhood that along with the Saudi Ilkwan
and the Pakistani jamaati's are at the core
of Al Queda. Hanza Rabia, Seif al Adel, Sheik
Rahman, Zawahiri, the late Ayub al Masri, Mohammed Atta and many many more. Their press
still spreads the most loathsome anti-semitic
tripe this side of Der Sturmer. They loath the
Iraq porject, but they know they will be the
next domino on the RPG and shaheed list. Bavk in the eighties, through Ghazala, their Westernized and thoroughly malleable Defense Minister, they
were way stations for the jihad to Afghanistan as well as joint ventures like the Condor missile with Saddam.Their one saving grace, I guess, is the detention facilities of the Egyptian security services; but that's a bad thing I guess. Tell me the value of
that price support

Christopher Hitchens is a disgusting hate- and war-monger. Are you? The hatred of Moslems is a sickness and you need to cure yourself.

Jennifer seems a very sweet, kind, and well-meaning individual.

Unfortunately, the ineffectiveness of America's large number of sweet, kind, and well-meaning individuals has now already resulted in the deaths of approximately one million innocent Iraqi civilians at the hands of Bush and the neocons.

Given this unfortunate track record, it seems to me that harsher measures should now instead be deployed against our own SLC, and all of America's other SLCs. Considerably harsher measures.

Bill and Hillary's advertised closeness to Israel (noted in Jerusalem Post article cited above) explains the failure of the Camp David II peace talks as our negotiating team was blatantly biased towards Israel. After all Hillary needed funds for her Senate run. Incidentally, our foreign aid to Egypt has been bribery for its Camp David I peace deal with Israel. Other than Jordan, all other Arab countries refuse peace until Israel ends its heinous occupation.

The occupation that began in '47; when the Arabs invaded Israel on at least three sides. The Saudis
didn't get involved but they provided moral support. Similar to being one of the larger contributors to the PLO's coffers, from the time
of the cross border fedayeen strikes. that eventually led to the '56 war. After all, did the Palestinians riot against Egyptian and/or Jordanian control of Gaza/West Bank pre '67, Or does it go back to 1917 and Balfour, or to the first land grants in the time of Gladstone; the
liberal who ran on the defeat in Afghanistan, but
became involved in the Greater Egypt/Sudan project
that lasted nearly half a century.

Were there mistakes in Israel's early history, with regards to the Palestinians, Benny Morris,
among others have made that case, although in retrospect he's discovered the flaws of trying to negotiate in good faith. are they of the sort that justify the blood libels of Al Jazeera, Al Manar, Al Arabiya and the BBC; probably not. The predominantly pro Hamas character of the 1st intifada led to measures like Ansar 3; Ketziot
Ketziot drove Jeffrey Goldberg out of Israel for a while, where upon he encountered some of his
former prisoners, who had moved from Fatah to almost nihilistic embrace of Hamas, and strong sympathy with AQ and Ahmadinejad.

The predominantly pro Hamas character of the 1st intifada led to measures like Ansar 3

I'm at the same time unable to figure out what the hell you are attempting to say and 95% sure you are wrong about whatever is.

Re Richard Steven Hack

"Trust me, we will have fun eliminating Zionism from the world."

Mr. Hack, ex-con, former inmate of Leavenworth and bottom to the brothers talks big. Why doesn't Mr. Hack travel over to Gaza and assist his buddies in Hamas in their efforts to eliminate the Zionists? The answer is that Mr. Hack has some chicken feathers where his competitive spirit should be.

Re RKU

1. "Given this unfortunate track record, it seems to me that harsher measures should now instead be deployed against our own SLC, and all of America's other SLCs. Considerably harsher measures."

Like Mr. Hack, Mr. RKU talks big but exhibits no action. By the way Mr. RKU, that sounds very much like a threat.

2. I seem to recall that Ms. Jennifer once indicated that she lives in Israel.

Re Jennifer

Mr. Hitchens doesn't like Christianity and Judaism either. When it comes to religion, Mr. Hitchens is an equal opportunity basher.

Ragardless of past history, the point today is that Israel could easily have peace with her Arab/Muslim neighbors today by accepting the Arab League Peace Plan. Unfortunately Israel is just too greeedy for Palestinian land and prefers war to peace. We in America suffer the consequences as we are going bankrupt ($3 Billion/week) fighting Israel's wars, and indeed, according to the terrorist who masterminded 9/11, it was US sipport of Israel's abhorrent occupation which inspired the 9/11 attacks.
