Vanishing Primates

Apparently almost one third of primate species are at serious risk of extinction.

I think there is a handful of primates who hate America.

Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in the forest today.

Them thar monkeys gotsto pull theirselves up by their bootstraps.

If only we'd cut taxes sooner, they might have made it. Damn you IRS, damn you all to hell!

This is the result of gun-control!! Get YOUR Damn dirty hands of my gun!!

I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize the forest, I point the finger in their face and say you helped this happen.

"This is the result of gun-control!! Get YOUR Damn dirty hands of my gun!!"

You've got to be kidding me.

You post as Charlton Heston and you go with the gun control joke over the "damned dirty apes" joke?

My mistake, Charlton.

Never mind.

These species are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis.

These self-obsessed primates seemed genuinely unaware and act as if the extinction only to them.

I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths.

How do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear on Animal Planet.

I was wondering why Republicans weren't on the list, and then I remembered that they're fungi, not primates.

It is slightly worse than that and I am surprised only the Times of London (followed by a flood of angry US comments) and Scientific American had the guts to report on it so far. If there is only one article you read this weekend (or year or decade) it should be...

(that is it - no more Grist for me. Those losers there are a joke when it comes to environmental understanding and they seem to sleep when it comes to big breaking news? they might be journalists but it is by chance that some of their subject are vaguely related to ecology and sustainability. I think the Bush administration was honest and smart regarding foreign policy and Iraq compared to the Grist and the environment. Yuck yuck yuck? The Atlantic which is NOT an environmental publication per se has more meaningful reporting than them. Much of their reporting ignores UN and WWF studies. Who sponsors the Grist - the religious GOP or Castro?? come on - either you are honest/smart or at least fast... The Grist is neither? Why? PS: I could never be a good critic. I am too harsh in the heat of the moment and regret it later. Of course, the Grist means well.., well?)

You all remember the IPCC report that has triggered the climate change debate. Now - after 5 years of work - another landslide report has been published last week by the UNEP - the most extensive of its kind. For the first time - all symptoms of ecological damage are combined to give a full audit report of the plant:

* climate change
* land
* water
* biodiversity
etc

The main results are:

* each person in the world now requires a third more land to supply his or her needs than the Earth can supply
* A point of no return can be imminent in which case humanity's survival is at risk

In the light of this... let us make fun of the hippies, the communists and the alarmists so that we can represent a more moderate golden middle?

No - I strongly believe that this debate needs more polarization as there are too many undecided.

Once a group reaches critical (ca 20%) mass through advocacy and education regarding a real paradigm shift taking place - one needs conflict (not violent of course!) for the undecided to take position. Without it - the majority can be utterly against farm subsidies and nothing happens for decades...

Somebody must attack those who support our War on Nature blindly! Somebody must attack those hypocritical statists who claim that environmentalists are communists (see Times comments) while wasting $ 2 trillion on nothing and while practicing plan economics and market distortions. Or those on the left who come up with detailed government health care plans without knowing how to sustain life on earth.

We need free market advocates who walk the talk when it comes to conservation of our only real income. We need mother and fathers more than ever - those who still care about their children and do not want to see them suffer because their parents are addicted to some recreational consumption. Alcohol and recreational drugs are NOT societies most dangerous addictions. The loss of our senses when we removed ourselves from nature has led to blind gluttony?

Acting when pain is avoidable rather than reacting when it hurts does not apply to rouge states as much as to the environment?

1400 independent scientists - all experts in their fields also produce better intelligence than some fake German spy that has been used to justify Iraq.

Among the junkies - there are four important political agendas: Iraq, constitution, health care and maybe the environment

when in fact there are four outside the social daze: environment, economy, environment, economy...

(yes - that cut on your arm must be treated or you can potentially die from it. but unless your heart and brain are working..)

who cares.. the primates are dying out. who will we lock up and torture in the future to test our cancer, obesity and depression drugs for the coming decades? Al Qaeda suspects?

Dear Atlantic, you are one of our best hopes for peace. Please evoke the spirits of Henry Thoreau, Mark Twain, Jack London, Albert Einstein, Carl Sagan and E O Wilson (November Issue - great!) more than ever. We need less artificial noise given the largest challenge, human nature, that mankind has yet faced? Or better - we need more natural noise and less artificial voices?

If anyone it is you who can package an ageless diamond in such a way that it looks like cheap pulp and hence becomes of interest to those who brag that they can read? But I fear that a more confrontational approach seems necessary given Western psychology which cannot be changed in time itself. Hippies cannot relate to conflict and do not know its language - we need journalists and politicians. But maybe I am wrong (I actually hope so). Maybe we can all work together starting today?

E O Wilson has tried for decades to work together with ideologies that are alien to him like religion and interventionists in order to save life as free market politicians have suffocated the subject at every step. Wilson's non-confrontational approach has not changed much so far... it has to hurt before we take action in every aspect of its meaning, also socially?

I got news for you primates.

In this century, YOU will be extinct.

Have a nice day!

Considering what you've said in the past about trees and such, why do you care?

Boooooooooring Snorefest!

Heh!

Feh. The order's already produced its masterpiece.

You know, BTD is making this tent feel a little too big. Who do I talk to about booting him the hell out of it?

Actually, there's this whole other tent out there with endless room for disrespectful monosyllabic morons with a taste for vagina jokes. Why don't you take your farting over there, BTD?

"In Soviet Union, primates extinct you."
