Mortgage reform passes House 291 to 127. The Blue Dogs took some heat over this issue, but at the end of the day they did the right thing and every single Democrat voted for the bill. The leadership tends to only attract attention when something goes wrong, but this is a significant success.

Great! I like "reform." I don't even care what they did, as long as it's "reform."

One of recurring themes of tonights debate from several candidates was 'we already have a law on the books, it's the Bush Adminstration that's not doing its job. As president, I will make sure we do our jobs.'
Its a sentiment I agree with in this case. There are already laws and on the books and systems in place that should have prevented or ameliorated all of the problems that are occurring now. It's the Treasury department, FTC, SEC, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, and the Federal Reserve that have been derelict during the run up, because the 'good times' were papering over a multitude of sins. They continue to be incompetent at carrying out their core missions. I do not think this new law is required; we need to enforce the laws we have.
