Separated at Birth

Brendan Nyhan notes the growing resemblance between Al Gore and character actor Chris Cooper. Could using Cooper as a stunt double have saved the 2000 campaign and thus spared the world all these troubles?

Actually, he looks more like the Michelin Man with hair.

Does Brendan Nyhan have dirt on you, Matt, such that you feel obliged to boost his traffic with links? This one's inane -- the two men look nothing alike. And Nyhan loves to spend energy concern-trolling other lefties.

Ironically I've always considered Cooper a Tom Delay-lookalike.

Dan is correct, Cooper's a shoo-in for a biopic on The Hammer.

Not only is Cooper a dead ringer for DeLay, but if you saw 'Breach' you know he's really good at playing sanctimonious/creepy.

I always thought Al Gore reminded me of Gary Sinise (or vice-versa). Maybe that's why he lost.

Wasn't Cooper playing like seven bespoiled gov't operatives within the space of a month? Something tells me BN's off-base association was his way of sharpening his concern-trolling stick at the other end -- rather than purposely veiled intellectual pissantry, he chose to go with the punditry version of an Indian burn.

if that pakistani guy nawaz sharif isn't some bizarro al gore twin, then i don't know what.

Character actor Chris Cooper? The man is one of America's best (and most under-appreciated) film actors period, not to be derided by the descriptor of "character" actor (like, say, Johnny Depp). Hmph.

I always thought Al looked more like Jeff Goldblum. They even seem to play the same character.

I'm more concerned about Senator Palpatine, to Mr. Gore's right.
