Here's a fun story from Politico -- it seems John Boehner wants to fire two of the top staffers at the NRCC, but NRCC Chair Tom Cole (R-OK) says he'll resign before firing the dudes. This in the context of poor NRCC fundraising, and poor candidate recruitment. Given the generally adverse political climate, if you ask me it's very important to Boehner's future that he not get his way on this issue. That'll set up Cole and his key guys as useful scapegoats in case the Democrats make big gains.

Who cares what the Republicans do? Demographic changes in the U.S. were going to eliminate the Republicans are a relevant political party. President Bush's incompetence just sped up the process. The real question is what kind of campaign finance reform will the Democrts pass once they become the one dominate party in the U.S.?
Encouraging, although that story is from September and word was things got smoothed over between Boehner and Cole. Still, you'd rather not be the NRCC right now, what with all the resignations in swing seats.
hey, that politico story is from back in september. it's two months old. there's been lots of developments since. i think i read that they worked it out (not that the overall political situation they face is any better)

Yeah, but so what? Boehner's future isn't all that bright either. He'll be gone by 2010 anyway.
