Tuesday Ellipses in Song Title Blogging

20 Nov 2007 12:34 pm

As part of my continuing commitment to bringing you, the blog-reading public, the very best in Canadian indie rock video, here's "Backed Out on The..." off Spirit If by what we're apparently supposed to call Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew.

Joules Scott Key from Metric plays drums.

I've had that record sitting on my hard drive for almost two months and have yet to listen to it because I can't get past the "BSS Presents..." nonsense.

Why am I reminded of "Rod Torfulson's Armada featuring Herman Menderchuk"?

That could have been made at any time between maybe 1969-70 and now. Does this mean we have arrived at the end of history?

As for music that could have been made at anytime between 69 and the present:

The best in Canadian indie rock music videos? You should check out the Bucky Awards currently underway at CBC's Radio 3 (their indie rock station).

Personally, I'm a big fan of Joel Plaskett's "Fashionable People," though I could make a convincing case for Bend Sinister's "Time Breaks Down," as well.

You can check them out (and vote!) at http://radio3.cbc.ca (look for the banner ad or in the blog for the link to the awards).

The old gray-haired guy playing guitar is J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. - maybe a little before Matt's time.

Video was ace. Song was boring.

The old gray-haired guy (occassionally) playing drums is also J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. And he's not Canadian.
