I don't like to think that I'm single-handedly responsible for the Pats' big win, but looking back the momentum does seem to have shifted about exactly when I posted about the game. Oh well. I suppose on some level I'm glad to have seen history made. The fact that the Patriots have looked eminently beatable in several of their games will only make the playoffs more interesting.

Actually, I have decided to come forward and admit my responsibility for this win. I make no excuses.
I did it by using the remote to jump back and forth between the Patriots-Giants game and the Celtics-Jazz game, thus invigorating each Boston team with the spirit of the other.
While coming clean, I must also admit that I was terribly wrong in another Yglesias comment thread months ago, when I condemned Danny Ainge for trading away the Celtics' future. I now realize that only the present counts.

Yes, several teams have come up with a blueprint for almost beatng the Patriots.
I live in the Bay Area and was a huge Joe Montana fan. That was a time when Eddie D's pocketbook bought and brought in a huge amount of talent. Brady seems to have that Montana cool and ability to get it done when it counts. I only listened to the first half of the game. The Giants were up. It probably would be a close game. But given what Brady had done in earlier games in the second half, or more specifically the fourth quarter, I thought that Brady would find a way bring them back. He did it against the Colts and Manning. Of course he has the motivated Moss to work with. Montana had Rice and John Taylor and Bret Jones et al. Brady does not have the supporting cast that Montana had. They both had great coaches Walsh the offensive genius, Belechek the defensive expert. We'll see what happens in the playoffs. Montana and Brady are at the top of pack of great quarterbacks I've seen, and who knows Brady may be at the top of the list.

The Colts, however, will likely have fewer injured starters this time around. I'm also curious to see how well the bestest offense evah holds up in a blinding snowstorm.
The Pats are clearly the best team in the league, but that doesn't always translate to "Super Bowl Champions." Should be interesting.
LaFollette: Are you saying that this New England team is less well equipped to deal with snow conditions than the Colts? Or am I reading this wrong?
The Patriots don't have a shutdown defense like the 85-86 Bears or the Steelers of the 70s. If you can pick up blitzes and protect your quarterback, you can score points on them.
However...
You also have to keep them from scoring more points than you, and this is what the other teams failed to do on 16 occasions this season.
Every time the Pats have needed---I mean, really needed---a drive and a score, they have come through. Trying to keep this offense from getting 10 yards on four tries is practically impossible.

Nah- it was my fault.
I remembered that the game was on when I heard some cheering outside the window that turned out to be the Giants scoring to make it 28-16. I turned on the tv and it was downhill from there...
