Huckabee in 1998

18 Dec 2007 11:15 am

We'll add these revelations from David Corn to the "things that probably help Huckabee with the GOP base" pile:

In a 1998 book decrying American culture, Huckabee was no seeker of common ground. He drew stark lines, equating environmentalists with pornographers and homosexuality with pedophilia and necrophilia. He also declared that people who do not believe in God tend to be immoral and to engage in "destructive behavior." He drew a rather harsh picture of an American society starkly split between people of faith and those of a secular bent, with the latter being a direct and immediate threat to the nation.

Quite the piece of work, this one.

Wow he really must have God on his side. How else would he know that in 2007 there would be a huge "new atheist" movement (huge of course being a few books)that would allow him to call secular society evil.

Does this count as "destructive behavior?" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_DuMond

I'm just asking. I mean, I know it's not as dangerous as believing in science, but still...

I'm one of those horrible godless environmentalists that Huckabee was warning everyone about. But, I'm tempted to get down on my knees every day and pray for Hukabee to win the Republican nomination.

Well, Matt, you can chime in again on how the hordes of rational free-thinkers are a huge threat to the country, as you did yesterday. You and Huck against Dawkins...

If you want to have some real fun go look up the co-author of this book, George Grant. Grant is a figure in the Dominionist movement.

Here's his blog: http://www.kingsmeadow.com/blogger.html

And here's some YouTube videos of the guy:

Fun stuff. I sure want to live under Biblical Law. Yay!

I heart Huckabee!
Seriously, this lunatic is the perfect candidate to send the GOP into the nosedive it deserves.

I confess, I can't think of another country where so many politicians do so well out of insulting their own country. I can't see Segolene Royal, to pick one at random, writing a book insulting every aspect of modern French culture ("our authors are immoral, our actors are disgusting, our pop music is crass, and I don't even like soft cheese!") I suppose other countries are just more... patriotic.

See, now if only those dirty fucking illiberal new atheists would just shut the fuck up...

Aren't posts like this sub-MMFA? I'm no fan of Huck, but if I were going to write something like this I'd get the actual book and make sure things weren't being taken out of context.

I guess posts like this are just so much easier than actually doing any work.

Goodness gracious, it almost sounds like Pastor Huckabee of Arkansas is actually a..."conservative"! I thought they only existed in rural Afghanistan or something. I'll bet he might even oppose "a woman's right to choose."

Now around the same time Huckabee was spouting such bizarre views, Mitt Romney was endlessly claiming to be more "pro-gay rights" than Teddy Kennedy. I honestly can't imagine why the Christian conservatives in the Republican party now seem to increasingly prefer Huckabee to Romney. Must be anti-Mormon bigotry I suppose...

But what America really needs is a sophisticated urban "social moderate," someone with "mainstream" views on abortion, gay rights, and gun control. Fortunately, there's such a candidate just at hand.

I think it's about time that Matt gets off the fence and finally endorses Rudy Giuliani...

"He drew a rather harsh picture of an American society starkly split between people of faith and those of a secular bent, with the latter being a direct and immediate threat to the nation."

But, but, doesn't that type of militant Christian rhetoric actually HURT the right-wing evangelical cause? No??

Well then I don't think I will shut up about the threat of "faith" either. Same as I wouldn't stifle my support for Howard Dean back when many of my betters on the internets said he would kill off the Democratic Party.

If you need two guesses on why Huck doesn't want us to see all his old sermons, you probably don't have two functioning brain cells.

Gotta be all sorts of goodies in there.
