It's interesting that the producers are putting finding better spinmeisters (arguably, anyway!) over any work in, say, negotiations.

Lehane did not serve Gore well - not at all. He was always showing up in cloying profiles while his spin was serving only to annoy people.
Gore more than anyone needed someone who could speak in a plain, earnest, and direct manner. But Lehane tried to outdo his betters over at the Bush campaign who were the beneficiaries of a national media that already hated Gore.
It was all very annoying. But it's fascinating how people just move up in the world following conspicuous failure.
