Because God Hates Hiroshima

09 Jan 2008 05:19 pm

Rudy Giuliani's biggest fan, Pat Robertson, on the failure of his 2007 forecast of a nuclear attack on an American city to come true: ""So did I miss it? Possibly, or, on the other hand, did God avert it? Possibly. But whatever, it didn't happen, so I think we can all rejoice."

Marion is probably more worried that his other presidential fave, Liberia's Charles Taylor, just started his war crimes trial. How about we rejoice if God makes his presence known by aiming a lightning bolt at that creepy old huckster millionaire's noggin?

Robertson's statement can be edited all the way down to the "whatever" with no loss in meaning.

I realize that Robertson has much in common with the moneyed interests of the GOP, given his giant African gold mine and vast sums of cash he's able to con from far too many Americans. However, he's still religious nutcase that think he channel prophecy from the all mighty and heal people through the TeeVee.

Still, for the life of me, I can't understand why Robertson would back a Pro-gay, Pro-abortion, Pro-stem cell research, Pro-gun control, thrice married cross dresser from the Big Apple. Maybe Giuliani's hate for teh Moslem is what has tipped Robertson into his corner...

I would call it market expansion ... getting bucks from the "Pro-gay, Pro-abortion, Pro-stem cell research, Pro-gun control, thrice married cross dresser from the Big Apple" demographic -- not many evangelists in competition.

I can't understand why Robertson would back a Pro-gay, Pro-abortion, Pro-stem cell research, Pro-gun control, thrice married cross dresser from the Big Apple.

Despite the high profile in recent years of the "hating on sex and gays" meme, "authoritarian fear-mongering" is a strong philosophical component in contemporary American Christianity. And no candidate believes in "authoritarian fear-mongering" more than Rudy.

Talk about false prophets.... Isaiah and Jeremiah would kick the shit out of this guy.

Religion is the greatest product ever created - copyright pending...i'm not kidding.

heads, religion wins. tails, you lose.

I heard after they got that quote, he deadlifted an fully-grown African elephant.

Talk about false prophets . . .

Prohets? Robertson though it was supposed to be profits

Fuck you Jay. Snoochie boochies.

I like the Robertson comment just before the one Matt quotes from the article: "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us,".

That's all he can think. That he warned of an attack "possibly" causing millions of deaths. "People of God" in turn prayed to God to save them. God, upon hearing these prayers, intervened & averted the attack. That's the only explaination that occurs to Robertson.

Come to think of it, I wasn't hit by a car today... thank you God! Hey I haven't been hit by lightning in 16060 consecutive days... praise be to Jebus!

It's always fun to know what the grizzled wobble-headed grinning nutcase Pat is up to, and I have always found that the deeper you dig the more fun and zanier it gets.

That said, somebody really should check into the "what happens when you don't have Pat to kick around any more?" story. This is no Falwell we're talking about here, this is a huge conglomerate with TV network, universities and foreign policy. After Pat goes to meet Beezlebub, what if we get a kinder gentler hipper helmsman of Pat's empire?

Is there a bigger nutjob who gets more attention from the national media?

Ron Paul.

Not exactly. They are not all happy campers under the same tent:

Ron Paul Revolution on CBN News & 700 Club

It appears that the Robertson empire is just another arm of oligarchy for the Ron Paul set. Pat is one of those sell-out realist types, too incremental or something. No pitchforks. Come to think of it, they mention AEI dissing Paul there and Pat's preachings are very sympatico with neo-con economic theory.

Did Pat Robertson make any predictions on the trial of his good bud Charles Taylor?

I don't know if mankind will be around in 1000 years. I hope if we are we look back and marvel at the quaintness and inanity of religion. It will be in the same head-scratching class of curiosities as smoking, homophobia and the combustion engine.

I hope if we are we look back and marvel at the quaintness and inanity of religion.

I suspect the humans of the 31st century will pray to the nature gods for a bountiful hunt whilst sharpening their stone weapons.

One of the weirder tidbits in the history of war is that Hiroshima was the center of the Protestant Christian population in Japan, and Nagasaki the center of Roman Catholicism in the country.

"...the humans of the 31st century will pray to the nature gods for a bountiful hunt whilst sharpening their stone weapons."

That's the hope, at least.

Obligatory snark:

"I don't know if mankind will be around in 1000 years."

It won't.

"I suspect the humans of the 31st century will pray to the nature gods for a bountiful hunt whilst sharpening their stone weapons."

They won't.

There might be a new gang of primates around doing that - after all, there were several proto-humans running about hundreds of thousands of years ago and we still have Bigfoot to take up after us - but humans are going away.

Trust me.

We Transhumans will probably leave the planet intact - unless we get the notion to strip-mine the Solar System and make a Dyson sphere or Ringworld...

But humans are going away.

Wait a minute. I thought Chris Hitchens was Giuliani's biggest fan. He and Pat Robertson do fit together nicely, though. Hatred of MLK, check. Hatred of "resentful, aging females", check. Vampiric desire for mass murder, check. As a bonus, Hitchens writes for the world's premier outlet for white supremecy science, Slate. I think Robertson could lower himself to that.

They'd make an awful sweet talk radio team.

How does the big guy feel about the C's? They dropped one at home tonight to the 13-21 Bobcats. That's pretty bad too, innit?

"But humans are going away."

Will there be children crying, and colours flying, all around the chosen ones?

"did God avert it?" -- How can people live with the cognitive dissonance implied in that question, and not have their heads explode? Or, at the very least, their empires collapse like Communism?

Will there be children crying, and colours flying, all around the chosen ones?

Will there be? dude, the loading has already begun!

Not everyone will go transhuman, there will be old style homo sapiens lingering on this planet for a few more milennia at least. I think Houellebecq already covered this.

It's not that weird that hIroshima and nagasaki had large Christian pops, isn't that why they had been spared up to that point? Remember, there weren't many targets left in Japan by August 1945.

I predict that you, sir or madam, will be eaten by a one-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater immediately after reading this comment. If you are not consumed by this giant flesh-eating alien, then you may rejoice!
