Chris Dodd's Out

03 Jan 2008 10:38 pm

He was the thinking liberal's sentimental favorite in this race, but obviously going nowhere. He came very close to beating Tom Daschle in a race for Democratic Leader back in the day, and maybe he has a future in Senate leadership.

...maybe [Dodd] has a future in Senate leadership

God knows we could use his leadership instead of what we have.

Being from Connecticut, I have one Senator I'm very proud of, and one, well... one who could actually be a Republican Vice President nominee. Jesus fucking christ.

But, yeah. Chris Dodd deserves lots of praise.

Anyone who was in the Peace Corps makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

dodd replacing reid... great idea!

Let's hope Dodd takes his disappointment and channels it into his fight against the telecom amnesty bill.

But really, tonight is a great sign of what's to come in the fall because a reddish state just turned out 2:1 in favor of the democrats. That's pretty amazing. I don't think any Republican has a chance in hell. And that's a great thing.

I feel the same way... Until I remember some of my fellow vols and how bonkers they were.

Dodd would sure as hell be better than Reid -- and there's a very recent rumor (can't remember where I read it, but it was one of the major papers) that he may be cranking up to challenge Reid. THAT'S the place for him.

Agreed, he's a good man, and as someone who never previously noticed him I've appreciated getting to hear from him.

Not to be too bloodthirstily calculating, but: will he endorse?

I'd be very pleased with Obama-Dodd versus Huckabee-Norris. The Senate's pretty clubby, and I wouldn't think Reid would get tossed.

Scuttlebutt is that Biden is dropping out tonight, too. This is really becoming a three-man race pretty quickly -- and if IA was any indication, Biden and Dodd's support is going to be dominated by Obama and Edwards.

I'm proud to have Dodd as my senior Senator. Hopefully he will stick around in the Senate. I'd love to see him in a leadership position - he has been fighting for the right causes and doesn't have to worry about reelection too much.

I would never want to go up against Norris. Even as veep. He'd destroy half of Manhattan in an electoral fury! Let's hope he stays out of politics, for the sake of us all..

buh-Biden

he's out too.

"The Senate's pretty clubby, and I wouldn't think Reid would get tossed."

That depends on whether we get a Democratic President who gets good and pissed off at the Senate Majority Leader letting the GOP block every single Democratic policy initiative just by THREATENING to throw a filibuster.

"Majority Leader Dodd" has a nice ring to it.

That future in Senate leadership

There'll be a vacuum at the top after Reid and a good chunk of the other leadership cops a plea with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. No prison time for enabling the American gulag, but they'll have to foreswear public office forever.

Biden has also dropped out.

"Majority Leader Dodd" has a nice ring to it.

From your keyboard to God's inbox. Pleeeease, Chris, rid us of Harry!

Please Chris, before Reid officially turns the term "Democratic Leadership" into an oxymoron.

Please do tell. Some of those have to be good for a laugh.

Dodd has the perfect combination of temperament, experience in the Senate's club-like atmosphere to know the ropes and electoral safety to be a rather effective Senate majority leader. Pelosi, all things considered, has been pretty good in the House, but Reid has just been so frustrating.

Well, for starters, a vol I knew chose his last weeks in country to sleep with the young woman who was the equivalent of his sister, much to the chagrin and shame of her family, who then started smacking her around because of the shame she'd brought to them. What was the vol's response? He decided to fast for one day for every time she got beaten. (Yeah, dude, that'll show them!) He actually mentioned the name Gandhi when somebody asked why he was fasting, too. This guy was one of those vols who literally did jack squat for his community over the course of two years but he was fluent in the local language and so attained a certain celebrity that allowed his ego and Lawrence-of-Arabia fantasies to flourish. He had a real love/hate thing going with the place, one day visiting each village house to say hi and then the next day screaming at the islanders while brandishing a machete because somebody had broken into his house the night before. That sort of thing.

But here's the punchline:
He is now a Peace Corps recruiter.

blah however much i admire dodd standing up for the constitution he's still a shill for the defense industry willing to initiate slaughter in columbia to sell a few helicopters.

biden works for my other least fav industry: credit cards. and he's an unrepentant drug warrior.

goodnight and good riddance gentlemen.
