Dark Phoenix

Spencer Ackerman does analogies and asks the question that needs to be asked: Is John McCain responsible for the deaths of billions of D'Bari? It's possible. Meanwhile, this came up as the two of us were watching a bit of McCain on the stump down in Florida. He has an odd manner -- he makes a lot of jokes and he's genuinely funny, but he sounds really angry, it's more like a Lewis Black routine than a stump speech. What's more, his efforts to appear concerned about the economy "my friends, we're all know about the housing, um, subrime mortgage, um, crisis" continue to be unconvincing -- I'm not sure McCain does know.

"I'm not sure McCain does know."

What an understment. McCain has been in DC sine 1982...no wonder as we enter another period of financial downturn he has no idea what is going on or what to do.

I think I watched the same thing, and this is certainly correct. McCain also has problems with pacing. He rolls right over punchlines and applause lines, routinely cutting off (and, I'd think, confusing) his audience.

Also, I can't be the only one who finds the endless repetition of "my friends" a little bit grating.

I guess I've been hearing a different set of stump speeches than y'all. The McCain speeches I've heard seem like parodies of McCain speeches: "My friends(TM), let me give you some straight talk(TM) [McCain then gets angry because John McCain has a short temper(TM)]" ... he doesn't sound so much really angry as very, very tired.

Maybe he's trying to get the angry and confused and tired alter-kocker vote?

It would be better for McCain if he actually had a "Mastermind" somewhere in his campaign to guide him. Apparently he doesn't.

And his own mind is far from up to the task.

The fact that this clown is actually being seriously considered for the Presidency is an indictment of the entire US electorate and media.

I mean, we could elect Cheech Marin for better reasons than McCain. At least the War on Drugs would stop.

Luckily, McCain doesn't have to contend with a "whisper campaign." OTOH, I've already gotten two emails trying to link Obama to Magneto.

Sen. McCain has lost it. I respect the guy for everything that he has accomplished, but he's now off the deep end. "there will be more wars"?!?! His campaign staff had to feel that sinking feeling in their stomache when they know it's over. Romney and Huckabee will be all over this. It's the beginning of the end (ironically, the 2nd time) for Sen McCain.

The Clash are always quite fitting:

Midnight for the six man
For the first time from Jamaica
Dillinger and Leroy Smart
Delroy Wilson, your cool operator? (Bill?)

Dress back jump back this is a bluebeat attack (john e.)
'Cos it won't get you anywhere (shame on you!)
Fooling with your guns
The British [Clinton] Army is waiting out there
An' it weighs fifteen hundred tons (but getting lighter)

White youth, black youth
Better find another solution (yes we can!!!)
Why not phone up Robin Hood (fairy tale?)
And ask him for some wealth distribution (nah)

Punk rockers in LA
They won't notice anyway (yes they will now!)
They're all too busy fighting
For a good place under the lighting (there aren't any left)

The new groups are not concerned (really?)
With what there is to be learned (neo-cons?)
They've got war on the streets, (w/ mccain just more streets)
huh? you think it's funny? (any WMDs under there?)
Turning rebellion into money? (haliburton?)

All over people changing their votes (welcome back to the UNITED States)
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today (or Stalin maybe)
They'd send a limousine anyway (or the Lincoln Bedroom)

I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf (limbaugh)
Who looks so sick in the sun (cheney)
I'm the white man in the Palais (kristol)
Just lookin' for fun (rummy)

I'm only
Looking for fun

But of course, one of the clowns on the Republican side has to get nominated. Will the Republican voters see him for who he is today, or will they see the guy they secretly admired eight years ago?
