Hacker's Response

20 Jan 2008 11:33 am

As promised earlier, here's Jacob Hacker's response to the CBO study calling into question his finding of an increase in economic volatility in America. Given that it's Sunday morning, I can't say that I've thoroughly looked into what he has to say, but I thought it made sense to put the link up at the earliest possible time since I'm going to have to see what others make of this as I don't necessarily have the relevant skills.

Airrrr-balllll!

;)

I've read through Hacker's response. I too am unequipped to evaluate the technical issues, and I look forward to reading a response from Peter Orszag at CBO. I think we are about to see something exceedingly rare in public policy: a serious debate between two people of utter integrity and civility. Who knows, maybe it will end with someone admitting a mistake! I'd like to see that at least once in my lifetime.

Caveat emptor: This debate will really prove exciting for aficionadoes of the statistical methodologies used to evaluate SIPP and PSID findings. Everybody else, not so much. Just tune in for the halftime commentary.
