I Get Emails

The things PR people try to pitch me on get pretty hilarious at times. For example:

For any upcoming hair-care stories, I’d like to offer you Martha Clemence (see photo and bio below), lead stylist for Fantastic Sams® Hair Salons. Some ideas that came to mind which Martha would love comment on:
  • The Hillary Do – Yay or Nay?
  • Washing that man right out of your hair - Post-Relationship at home hair care; what to do with the flowers, chocolate and wine he gave youHow to look and feel your best, even on a budget
  • How NOT to go gray naturally
  • Everyday tips and tricks on how to keep hair healthy, even if you use an iron or curler

Everyone knows you put the flowers, chocolate, and wine he gave you into your hair -- it forms an excellent shampoo.

Matt, I love your blog, but it seems to me that you should be the last person to make fun of someone else's poor grammar! There have been several howlers just today.

Will,
I don't think he was making fun of the message's grammar. I think he was making fun of its existance.

What's hilarious is that this PR person thought Matthew Yglesias would want to interview a hair stylist. Everyone knows that Matthew Yglesias doesn't want to interview anyone.

Yeah, a usage putdown would have zeroed in on "Yay or Nay."

Matt may have passed on this, but would anybody be surprised to see an article in the Post about Hilary's hair with this stylist quoted?

Is lead stylist similar to head chef? Does the lead stylist decide which hairdos will be featured in a given season?

This isn't a bad thing, but didn't you just give the PR person almost exactly what he or she wanted? Presumably she wanted the name subtly worked in rather than just posting the e-mail, but you've still raised awareness of the hairdressers name.

The poster above is correct.

You should have held out for at least a free makeover before posting this . . .

Mission accomplished.

In a feeble attempt to be slightly serious about this, it might be indicitave of how over Edwards's campaign is percieved to be that the political example offered in the release is the "Hillary Do" rather than Edwards's allegedly overpriced haircut.
