Republicans as Buffy Villains

15 Jan 2008 02:14 pm

Neil Sinhababu brings the funny as we get to ask the GOP Presidential contenders "which Buffy villain are you?" Romney as "The Mayor" seems particularly apt.

Romney's voice has robocalled our Michigan house twice, addressing the target individual by name. So it's, "Hello Cindy, This is Mitt Romney calling . . .," as if he knows Cindy personally.

It's only minor sleaze, but it's sleaze. John McCain's robo calls don't do this.

wow, robocalls from the robocandidate... creepy but interesting.

no Spike.

Which explains a lot.

Or Drusilla, Darla, or Faith.

Which explains a lot more.

There's no Spike, because Spike is John Edwards in the "Democratic candidates as Scoobies" list:

Clinton: Willow. Smart, hard-working, sneered at by the cool kids. It's been said she's a lesbian.

Edwards: Spike. Based solely on the way he sounds, you'd think he was on the other side. Insert hair joke here.

Obama: Xander. The heart and soul of the team. Lack of any extraordinary powers makes him seem just that more extraordinary.

Richardson: Tara. What the hell do I have to do to break into the opening credits?

Biden: Anya. Has valuable experience and information. Sometimes lands a very good line, more often spouts off at the mouth without thinking. Likes money more than people, because people can so rarely be exchanged for goods and/or services.

Dodd: Andrew. Knowledgeable. In retrospect, a lot better than he got credit for being at the time.

Kucinich: Oz. Scrappy little guy. Sentimental favorite. Involved with hot redhead who should be out of his league, but somehow it seems plausible.

Gravel: Dawn. Why are you still here?

Never saw the show. Saw Charmed once, liked it a lot. Too bad it was the last episode. "AnnMarieCombs or AlyssaMilano?" still forms part of my internal dialogue.

Let me shortcut the "Dems as StarTrek characters" version. They're all Neelix, only even more annoying.

Never saw the show. Saw Charmed once, liked it a lot.

Translating that for Wire fans, that sentence is the equivalent of :

Never saw The Wire. Saw Reno 911 once, liked it a lot.

TLB, I envy someone who hasn't yet watched Buffy.

I don't see Edwards as Spike at all. Unfortunately, no candidate is Spike. We seem to be missing a Buffy and Giles as well. No wonder we are in trouble.

Clinton suits as Willow; it should satisfy both her supporters and her haters, since Willow is a good witch most of the time, but tries to destroy the world when her lover is killed..

Yikes, I goofed up. Sorry, sorry, sorry Matthew. Can you delete the extras? Despite my venerability, I am not usually this clueless.
I am used to havng to try to decipher the spam-preventing secret code three or four times.

I wonder if Huckabee would have been the big demon-in-a-tub from season 3 if he hadn't lost all that weight.

Thanks for the tip to the post. Very funny.

Thankfully, I'm not as plugged in to the wonderful world of TV as others, so I've never seen The Wire either.

As for Buffy, I believe that Charmed is the far superior show due to things like this or this:

As a contributor notes (askmen.com/women/actress/9_alyssa_milano.html), she has "nice wide deep seperation".

OTOH, I googled for SarahMichelleGeller and this is all I came up with:

Having only seen maybe one episode of either Buffy or Charmed, I can't pick - except to say that both shows were loaded with hot babes. I mean, Rose McGowan, c'mon, guys! But I have read a lot of Wikipedia entries about the show, so I have an idea who the characters are.

As for Clinton being Willow, no, despite the lesbian connection, I can't see it. Clinton is not a "witch" - that defames and demeans witches who are mostly cool people. Clinton is definitely a demon, albeit a fairly low level one.

Clinton is definitely more like one of the female villains - that bitch lawyer Lilah Morgan in "Angel".

I mean, who does this sound like?

"Only Lilah and Lindsey are spared, and with only the two of them left on Wolfram & Hart's Special Projects Team, their rivalry reaches an all-time high as they start a power struggle for the vice-presidency of the team, as well as for survival."

Who does this sound like?

"'I am not Lindsey McDonald. I don't switch [sides] whenever it gets tough.' In response, Cordelia calls her a 'vicious bitch.' Lilah shrugs. 'So you know me.'"

Who does this sound like?

"As shown earlier in the series with Holland Manners, an employment contract with Wolfram & Hart does not terminate with death, [or the termination of a Presidency - RSH] and Lilah returns at the end of the fourth season wearing a scarf around her neck to hide the scar from Wesley's axe."

Who does this sound like?

"Like her fellow Wolfram & Hart employees, Lilah has virtually no sense of morality whatsoever. This is unusual given the general themes of feminism in Joss Whedon's Buffyverse. In Lilah's case, her ruthlessness is attributed to the corporate glass ceiling; her gender forces her to be 'quicker, smarter, faster than any man at Wolfram & Hart.' She is shown talking on the phone with her forgetful mother (implied to have Alzheimer's), and later remarks to Angel that her high salary ensures that her mother can have 'the best room at the clinic'."

What a surprise, the transhuman's taste in women veers toward white trash.

"Richardson: Tara. What the hell do I have to do to break into the opening credits?"

Die? It is kinda funny how that was the only episode where she was in the opening credits.

Clinton isn't enough of a loveable dork to be Willow. Plus, Willow could actually make stuff work.

Stupid Great Firewall of China has to go and ruin my fun by not allowing me to open the link.

Wow---I so rarely get to plug my blog in a totally justified way. But this rare time, I can! I actually did a Buffy to Scooby comparison after this came out too, and it's here.

"What a surprise, the transhuman's taste in women veers toward white trash."

To what does this refer? To my recognition that Rose McGowan is hot? What part of "hot" don't you get?

Yes, she's whacked. Wearing that insane "three threads" dress with Marilyn Manson wasn't exactly the smartest thing she could have done.

She's still hot. Hot does not imply everything there is to be known about either her or me.

In fact, a Wikipedia check shows she's had rather an odd rearing:

"McGowan, the second-eldest of six children (plus two half-siblings), was born in Florence, Italy, the daughter of Terri, an American writer of French descent, and Daniel McGowan, an Irish -born artist.[1] Daniel McGowan ran an Italian chapter of the Children of God to which both he and his wife held membership until 1978. McGowan spent her early childhood amid the group's communes, often traveling Europe with her parents. Through her father's art contacts in Italy, McGowan became a child model and appeared in Vogue Bambini and various other Italian magazines. Her parents returned to the United States when she was 10,[2] when they divorced. She subsequently relocated to Oregon and then Gig Harbor, Washington, where she also met childhood friend actor Rey-Phillip Santos. McGowan did not speak English until she moved to the U.S.

McGowan's formative years were spent with her father in Seattle, Washington, attending Roosevelt High School and Nova Alternative High School. At the age of 15, she officially emancipated herself from her parents.[3] McGowan pursued a possible career in the film industry during her late teens, and also enrolled in a beauty school as a back-up."

I'd say that explains a lot.

And here's something that makes her more interesting to me:

"While dating Manson, McGowan appeared in a music video for the song "Coma White", and also performed backing vocals on the song "Posthuman."

Heh, heh.

My taste in women is considerably higher than you might expect, if you've followed any of my other comments. Since you've not provided any examples of your preferences, it would appear that a direct comparison would be difficult and thus I reserve my own snark until you admit your guilty turnons.
