Holy shit, Brian Williams is promising to talk about the economy after the advertising break. I was beginning to think these NBC hosts melted when they started talking about issues.

The Economy!

Man, it's too bad that Edwards uses his economic populism to answer every fucking question that is asked of him. You'd think maybe he could expand on it a little more when asked directly, but no, we get the same stump speech.
Hillary's idea to freeze the interest rate is pretty stupid when the rate is falling!
Did you see Ari Fleischer seriously say that Willard must've misspoken when he said GHWB instead of GWB? Because everyone loves GWB? Misspoke both times, I guess.
It must be so embarrassing to tie your career and dignity to such a man.
Imagine Huckabee, Romney or McCain trying to win a debate on economic policy against any of these Dem candidates. There would be calls from PETA and the ASPCA to stop the proceedings.
How come Brian Williams has not asked Hillary what her what her grandmother's favorite candy is?
These dumb horse race questions are the kind of things most people would be afraid to ask - because they would fear ridiucule/
Absolutely the worst moderating I've ever seen.
Also terrible is your colleague Andrew Sullivan's live-blogging interpretation of the debate. He is absolutely, pathologically hateful toward Hillary.
For instance, Hillary, in response to the Bob Johnson question, obviously meant that she is both giving this Johnson guy the benefit of the doubt, and that his statement was out-of-bounds. These may be contradictory positions, as Andrew points out. However, its also totally fucking stupid (on the part of fathead Tim and empty suit Brian). She's trying to move along, on a totally uninteresting topic, that, as Ezra points out, is detrimental to the Republic.
Imagine Huckabee, Romney or McCain trying to win a debate on economic policy against any of these Dem candidates. There would be calls from PETA and the ASPCA to stop the proceedings.
Except that most voters are dumb as shit about the economy and the leading story would be how much the Democratic candidate sighed.
"I was beginning to think these NBC hosts melted when they started talking about issues."
If he had had work done all that time on the tanning bed (either they need to hire new lighting people or he is the most artificially tanned man in television history) would have melted him by now.
Couric I'm not so sure about. (Without all those wine coolers and hard sex with the football team in high school she might have been a competent host.)
Matt, please talk more about John Edwards' "drop-out factories."
More problems with media coverage of the campaign?

"Senator Obama, as an African-American, do you have any special perspective or understanding on the effect of the economic downturn on the underclass?"
